What if by pilot, they didn’t mean pilot episode but rather the actual pilot himself - the hero who flew the plane?!?!

— Nav

The much thought over and agonisingly annoying of all questions, is the apparant ‘big’ clue in the pilot.

Perhaps we as viewers have interpreted the producers comment of the clue in the wrong way. To paraphrase what the producers said, we were told that there is a clue in the pilot.

What if by pilot, they didn’t mean pilot episode but rather the actual pilot himself - the hero who flew the plane?!?!

I know I may be clutching at straws but now that season 4 has developed, we have learnt a little bit more about the pilot of flight815, namely the fact that he wasn’t even supposed to be flying the plane in the first place!!!

Directly from lostpedia : Seth married his childhood sweetheart at nineteen years of age, and always wore their wedding ring, according to Frank Lapidus. His official Oceanic Airlines photo shows that he once had a mustache. For an unknown reason, he replaced Frank Lapidus as the pilot of Flight 815. (“Confirmed Dead”)

Seth “Six hours in, our radio went out; no one could see us. We turned back to land in Fiji. By the time we hit turbulence, we were a thousand miles off course. They’re looking for us in the wrong place.”

To be honest guys, I’m not really sure what I am getting at, I just feel that there maybe more to Seth Norris than originally thought of. Here’s some of my wild musings:

I know I’m going to sound completely barmy but I’ve got that Friday feeling so here goes…the producers intended Jack to die in the pilot and it was supposed to be his body on top of the tree. Perhaps Jack has taken the role of Seth within Lost. This leads me to a really wacky thought - future Jack is desperate to ‘go back’ to the island. We know he has taken flying lessons and maybe he learns about the runway being built. Somehow and I know it’s a really big “somehow” but it was Jack behind the actual plane crash. I don’t really want to go with the whole this is the second time Jack has been on the island, so I am going to offer something which I think is a new theory. Jack is unknowingly a double agent…you’re all going to give me - 1 now aren’t you! But after listening to the producers comments on the season 2 opener, the producers say that man of science/man of faith is in reference to the two sides of Jack. And as the show has progressed we have definetly seen two sides to Jack, most strikingly when he tried to kill John. I think Jack has moments when he blacks out and doesn’t remember what he is doing - remember he blacked out during the plane crash, and probably blacks out every time he’s on a bender!

Ok, im going to stop rambling now and please I would love to hear all your comments.

Nav, I actually like this idea, of it being “the pilot”, instead of the pilot episode! You could be right. +1

The writers will definitely be addressing the issue of Seth, in future, because of his friendship and relationship to Frank. Also, as you mentioned, they theoretically changed places with one another, flying the ill fated #815, and that part of the story will be expanded on.

I am willing to embrace Jack as being a “double agent”, but could you expand on that aspect for me, as to why you think that, and who he could be working for, etc.? Nice work!

I like the idea that tghclue is the pilot geezer other then pilot episode! I have watched the pilot endless times and can only see clues as to the islands whereabouts in what the pilot says, in the pilot.

Seth “Six hours in, our radio went out; no one could see us. We turned back to land in Fiji. By the time we hit turbulence, we were a thousand miles off course. They’re looking for us in the wrong place.”

From Sydney to LA in a north east direction, goes straight over the top of fiji, so theoretically, turning back to fiji should have taken them back along the path they had already travelled, meaning easy to find. This leads me to think either the pilot was lying, or the island is invisible. Plot it out on a map, see what you think :)

Nav, I like this idea about the clue in the pilot referring to “Seth Norris”. We know how much those writers like to serve up a lot of riddles, concerning story-line. I think personally that Seth knew that he was not heading to LA , and that is why he told Jack they don’t know where to look for us ,we are a thousand miles off course. He knew because he steered it off course by someones orders.

I always did wonder about how the writers re-wrote for Jack, when he was initially supposed to be brown-bread in the first episode, and you have given us food for thought.

Double-Agent / Blackouts…I could go with that too.

    Nice +1

I don’t buy Jack “supposed” to die in the pilot, why would they cast Matthew Fox in the role? He was the only actor on the show I knew before it started! In addition, deleted scenes mean nothing and this one was obviously cut so they could use the devoted husband angle and they knew back then it wouldn’t work. Thirdly, the producers have lied and switched directions many times, why would this be the one thing they’re telling the truth about? Good theory though, +1 for bringing up the possibility! Just drop the “Jack supposed to die in the pilot” nonsense.

thanks for all the positive feedback guys!!

Don’t know whether this is true or not, but my mate told me that the apparant clue in the pilot was when charlie said “Where are we?”

Now I don’t really see how this could be construed as a clue, but I looked it up on the podcasts and the producers do imply that question as a clue…

    Any ideas?

I don’t know about the pilot episode itself, but the first Mobisode where Christian Shepherd tells Vincent to wake up his son because Jack has work to do. I don’t know if that scene counts as part of the pilot, but it would be a major clue as to what’s going on.

DCLostie I was definetly shocked when I saw that mobisode, and yeah it has to mean something…

The thing with the clue in the pilot is that the producers were under intense critism for supposedly ‘blaggin it’ and making it up as they go along - therefore if we figure out the clue then maybe we can figure out the show!

Seth Norris; anagram - Is Snr Other.

If Jack’s character took over Seth’s role in the plot then Jack would be the Senoir Other. The plot then seems to be very like Total Recall where Arnie Schwartz goes back to Mars with his mind swept clean so that he can get past the mind readers (smokie?) and get access to the leader of the rebels (Jacob?). +1
