In the trailer for the next episode, 4.09, we see Hurley holding a crying Aaron.

It appears to be Locke’s (formerly Ben’s) house in the Barracks. As Hurley looks out the window, he says, “Is that Claire’s house?”, as if something unusual is happening to the house in question.

This leads me to believe that Claire is in the house in question, and that she dies there (after all, the Barracks is under assault from as yet unknown forces). It also leads me to believe that Hurley takes defacto custody of Aaron, and that he is the one who carries Aaron off the island. Once off the Island, he gives Aaron to Kate to take care of, perhaps also with the lie that Kate gave birth to Aaron on the Island so there wouldn’t be a custody battle.

sounds plausible (since it would make sense of how aaron and hurley both get off), but i’m not buying that claire is dead. maybe she appears to be dead, but i think she will live, and play an important role in season 5 as the mother who had her child taken away. sounds like rousseau…

i think it’s a possibility that Claire stays on the island, yet Aaron leaves. Maybe ‘they’ (whoever eventually comes to their rescue) tell our passengers that only those with a constant will be able to leave the island.

Claire, not having a constant, decides to stay on the island but gives Aaron up so he can have a chance to live a normal life. (side note: Aaron doesn’t need a constant because he wouldn’t be confused by a time shift similar to one of Desmond’s)

I don’t believe Claire dies now for a few reasons. First of all, the producers said that Claire + Jack would find out their related at some point. Second, I believe Claire is going to get onto a helicopter at some point as foreseen in Desmond’s vision. That hasn’t happened yet, so I think she’s safe.

It’s not necessary for Claire to leave the Island for Jack to find out they are half-siblings. Probably Ben already knows this, and we know how ready he is to rain on anybody’s parade.

I don’t think Claire would willingly give up Aaron - especially given the psychic’s warning that Aaron must be raised by Claire and nobody else. Plus, she’s completely reversed her decision to give the baby up for adoption - not uncommon with mothers, by the way. I would think that Claire would have had to have Aaron taken against her will (unlikely that Hurley would have done that), or she has died and Hurley decides he’ll be responsible (despite his record of bringing disaster on those around him) as a way of redemption. He may have given Aaron up to Kate after they both got away from the Island, out of concern about his jinx.

But as is usual with this sci-fi tarot fantasy series, we’ll probably just have to wait to find out exactly what happens to Claire, and just how Aaron gets off the Island.
