what incentive would there be for Michael to assume a new name

I don’t think that Michael is the man in the coffin, purely for the reason that the name in the newspaper that Jack has is neither MIchael Dawson or Kevin Johnson.
If Michael is the man in the coffin, then the name in the paper that Jack has in TTLG must be his new name, and both Kate and Jack know this. My question is, what incentive would there be for Michael to assume a new name, and to create this name when he is around Kate and Jack. Surely there is nobody left for Michael to want to deceive, especially on the island, as the island is the only place where Jack and Kate would find out about this new name.

In “Meet Kevin Johnson”, Michael goes to see Walt and his mother says to him that she’s angry because “She can’t even call them by their real names”… so, Michael is already living under an assumed name BEFORE joining the freighter as Kevin Johnson.
That plus I think the producers have already said that the paper we see in “Through the looking glass” is a prop and does not necessarily have the correct name on it.
OK, i was just wondering how Jack and Kate would know about this new name, but I guess if what you said about the paper being a prop is true it doesn’t matter.
Perhaps in the coming episodes Michael meets up with Jack and Kate again tells them that he’s been back to the real world living under an assumed name.
Yes, dont forget, Michael has now used 3 names. His own, KJ….and one yet to be revealed. It must be relevant, if the show isnt giving us the name yet, right?
