If Jin is really dead(gets killed in an upcoming episode) then Sun’s character has no more purpose on the show.

She is pretty well to do off the island and like Jack at first, seems ok and content to be away from that place and never going back.

Now if Jin is dead, she can just stay home, take care of her baby, hang out with Hurley, and generally go her merry way. With no Jin, she has no reason to wait for him, or risk going back to save him. Without Jin, her character has no motivation. There is no more story arc for her to follow. She needed to get off the island to save herself and her baby, and we see that this has happened in her flashforward.

Now they could keep her around for next season for a few more flashback or flashforwards. But i don’t see her character going anywhere plotwise without Jin.

Now, Mr. Daniel Dae Kim did get himself in trouble with the law recently, and we saw what happed to M. Rodreiguez and A. Akinnuoye-Agbaje when they got in similar trouble.

But, I think Jin IS alive back on the island and can’t leave.

I ‘ve read a lot of the “Jin is or isn’t dead” theories, but i havn’t seen it from this angle yet. If

I agree Lateralus. +1. I also think he is still alive on the island. She said “I miss you so much” at the cemetary. This means he could be dead or he could be on the island.

The tombstone appears as if it was put up after the 06 were found, as Sun does not have a date of death on her side. It looks like everyone thinks he died in the crash as his date of death is 9/22/04.

Maybe her storyline going forward could be just like Jack’s: Trying to get back to the island because of guilt of leaving friends and loved ones behind.

yeh, i agree that jin is alive. cos i think that ALL the oceanic 6 have to return to the island at some point, and if jin was dead, then there would be no reason for sun to go back. i think suns intention is to leave just until the baby is born, then try to go back to jin. but she won’t know for definate that she can return, which will make for a really emotional goodbye. i think i’ll probably cry when they say goodbye…lol

    Devil’s advocate here…

Saying that Sun has no purpose on the show if Jin is gone is not necessarily true. What if her purpose is to raise Ji Yeon? As far as we know, Ji Yeon is the only baby to have survived after being concieved on the island, right? That would be GREAT for the research that they have been conducting.

By the way, I do agree that Jin is still alive on the island. Just wanted to throw that out there to add another angle is all. +1

+1 Jin is important because he was able to get Sun pregnant on the island, which he couldn’t do OFF the island. This makes him valuable, and I’m guessing that making it seem like he’s dead is a way of protecting Jin.

I’m sure my theory is flawed - fyi i’m new to the site

lateralus, +1 for a good theory. I hadn’t thought of this angle before and it does sound right to keep Sun in the story. I like it!!

    +1 That is a good point…unless Sun’s baby is important…..which gives Sun relevance. AKA…Claire.
