you gotta lift it up

more of an observation than a theory.
do you remember the first episode of season 2 when jack was doing the ‘tour de stade’ and ran into des.
well now knowing that des is capable of time travel i sense there may be a clue here. des says ‘ill give you some advice,’ -pause- ‘ you gotta lift it up’ - pause. when watching it the first time this seemed like a normal conversation, but now i know des can time travel, i wonder wether des is trying to tell jack something.
please before you make a comment go away and review it cause you wont remember it properly. its 30 mins into episode 1 series 2 ‘man of science, man of faith’
and yes, i am aware that after he says about jacks ankle, but it seemed as though he was using that as a skape goat.
if you agree with me, have you any idea’s as to what hes trying to say?
i actually agree, i thought it was weird too. but i dont know what “you gotta lift it up” could mean…apart from the ankle thing obviously.
i agree there is more to that conversation than meets the eye not sure what yet though +1
lift up the hatch??
I don’t understand your point.
I took it to mean part of the usual medical recommendation for such injuries: RICE
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
So Desmond was recommending that Jack elevate his ankle. Simple as that.
He may also have been advising Jack on the proper way to run up and down a bunch of stairs: lift up your feet higher than you might think necessary, in order to avoid catching an edge and twisting one’s ankle. Better to expend slightly more energy to avoid injury.
possibly the hatch?? not sure though i think it may have a deeper meaning.
tracker - what dont you understand??
veefre - as i have a degree in sports science i am aware of that cocept. but thank you for your opinion.
just a question for you, did you review the conversation before posting, cause it really does look like it has hidden meaning
I also think there was something else to Desmonds words to Jack, a second meaning, and he might not even have understood why he felt the need to say them. But what it might be I don’t know. At this point it could turn out to be anything. Even something as goofy as Jack ending up being the one who has to take over flying the helicopter out of there, and remembering Des’s words, to know how to operate the whatchamacallit that guides it up or down. (Obviously I’m not a pilot)
ruggur, I definitely agree there was some other meaning to what Des said to Jack. +1
I like what ozzig said about Jack flying them off the island. It could be something as simple, but important as that and I hope everyone remembers it when it happens!
maybe he was talking about the lid to the coffin.
That’s probably not right, but the comment was very weird
Didn’t Eko’s stick say something about ‘lift up your eyes and look north’? Don’t know if the two relate to each other but we haven’t seen much about lifting things so perhaps they are. I think every conversation has a double meaning when it comes to ‘lost’. +1
here’s a link to a theory by Rimland_thesis that is pretty good. The quote on the stick is a bible verse.

I thought maybe Jack had problems parking his car!
But lifting-up the “hatch” would probably make more sense or its something else to come in the series.
This theory below states possible timetravel moments regarding Desmond, i’ve always thought that since season 3 “flashes b4 ur eyes” ep. Desmond has traveled through time more then once.

I agree that Desmond may have flashed back to that day with Jack. Just because we haven’t SEEN Desmond flashing back to that moment after the hatch explosion doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Desmond also saw Penny for the last time at the stadium that day if I remember corectly. Desmond also says to Jack something like “running like the devil’s chasin’ ya” and “See you in another life brotha”. I think I need to re watch that episode…. to see about the ankle comment. It seems to me it will turn out to be important like the beginning of the Pilot with Jack on the ground.
oops I spelled “correctly” incorrect. Sorry for any more typos it is late.
I would have to watch that episode again (watching season 1 again at present and will get there soon :) ) but im sure I remember there being something in the same episode about Jack performing an operation and lifting something up to save her? Its fuzzy, but if someone else remembers what im on about that would help…..or im confusing it with something else which is quite possible.
I defintitely remember an “ah maybe thats what des meant!” moment.
I’ve seen that episode numerous times, knowing that Des has travelled through time, which iss a big distinction between Des being able to travel through time. A man can be fired into the air in a giant catapult and experience flight - but this does not mean he is able to fly.
Anyway, I don’t think there’s anything deeper going on. Jack later references this conversation in the episode Catch 22, and Desmond can barely remember he said it.
I re-watched this episode the other day ruggur and yeah, i agree that Des is giving Jack some advice about what could happen in the future.
Then again, maybe it is as simple as telling Jack to keep his foot elevated to ease the swelling but it sounded as if he was referring to something more specific.
I’ll be watching this space +1
Another example of a mindshift event that the mindshifter subsequently forgets until the point when his future self mindshifts back. Thereby removing any paradox.
Apologies to ruggur if I am going off at a tangent but can anyone point to a mindshift event that the people involved can remember before the time when they timeshift back. In fact i’m going to look into this and post something. +1
