In the Constant we see that Daniel Faraday made a kind of Laser that ‘unsticks’ objects in time. What is interesting is that he says Oxford University ‘frown upon it’, if they frown upon it must be funded by an outside source. Sorry if this has been mentioned before but I think Charles Widmore funded Faradays research.

Faraday got funding from Widmore, and perhaps his Laser was based on some old research of Dharma that Widmore was able to get his hands on and he passed it to Faraday who he hoped could make it work.

I think that Faraday later reported Desmonds visit to Widmore, who then in turn manipulated events to make sure Desmond got to the island.

Later on when Frank Lapidus explains to his colleagues on the freighter that he gave Desmond the phone because Faraday said he could help him, the doctor replies ‘Faraday can’t even help himself!.

What I think means is that, after years of exposing himself to daily doses of radiation Faraday also became unstuck in time, but his condition was more stable and did not progress as fast as Desmond and Minkowski as he was not subjected to a huge dose of radiation in one go like they were, but a small gradual dose.

So Faraday has been waiting to get to island to find Desmond, who will stablise his condition as he is his constant.

You stole my theory!!!!! But you still get a +1

Just click on my name and you’ll find it!

I posited the same thing. Basically, one of hte companies we know about funded Faraday’s purple-ray machine and thats the link between Faraday getting to the island.

You may be right about Widmore funding Daniel’s experiments, but I’m doubt that the doctor’s quip about Daniel not being able to help himself means much.

Daniel had some protection against the radiation and his experiments took place in the mid 90’s. Any radiation he was exposed to would most likely be gone; it’s half-life over.

I think Daniel’s question to Jack lays the ground rules for what factors are necessary in order for one to be affected:

Well, your friend, Desmond. Has he recently been exposed to high levels of radiation or electromagnetism?”

Recently” and “high” being the key words here. I could be wrong though. If that’s the case I’ll be eating crow for dinner when his nose starts bleeding.

I think it’s likely that Widmore did finance Farradays experiments when no one else would. Widmore supplying the initial idea to Farraday also is possible.

Do we know that Farradays experiments ended in the ‘90’s? I wouldn’t think that experimentation ends when the scientist makes a discovery, but would be carried on even stronger. His deterioration suggests the experiments continued.
