This is my first post, and I didn’t read ALL the other posts, so maybe this has been put out there already.

I read a few different posts/comments about Jin’s apparent death and the last scene at the cemetery with Sun and Hurley.

My thought to put out there is regardless if Jin dies on the island or not, it’s obvious he did not return with Sun, which is reason enough for her to grieve when she is at the cemetery. I saw a lot of comments about ‘hiding’ if Jin is alive from Mr. Paik, but this doesn’t make much sense to me.

Some things to point out: - In the future, Sayid now hunts down people for Ben. - In the future, Hurley receives a visit from the “Oceanic lawyer” who obviously is up to no good and wants information about people on the island. - In the future, Jack wants to go back to the island. Obviously, I have to think that people are there and that is why he wants to return, not just for the memories.

So, there are people still alive on the island. There is another group of people (Widmore’s?) who want information about the island. And then there’s Sayid (who evidently “sold his soul”) who is picking off people for Ben once off the island. (To “protect” the island and its inhabitors?)

Which brings us back to Jin and Sun. Wouldn’t it be more likely that no matter if Jin is alive or not, that Sun HAS to keep up appearances that he’s dead, having died with the crash, in order to protect him (in a way) or anyone else who is on the island?

At Kate’s trial, it became very evident that the Oceanic 6 survivors have a very specific story about surviving that they tell and MUST stick to, no matter what the emotional/mental/physical cost. Sun’s grief sure seemed to line up with that as I watched. So this is why it didn’t matter if she and Hurley were alone at the cemetery or not, because to her, Jin is gone. (Which of course, it is a very real possibility that he does die in between now and 2011 or whenever this thing ends.)
