In A Nut Shell - Sleepz may truly have Lost it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I have been thinking for sometime that someone external must have been involved in Ben’s original purge on the island. I am now thinking that the financial backer was - Charles Widmore
Charles Widmore orchestrated the hostiles take over of the island. and Ben’s job was originally to hand the island over once the purge was successful. As we know this clearly didn’t happen and Widmore now wants what hes has paid for and is here to collect.
The around the world race that desmond entered and several other ‘charitable events’ that were orchestrated by Widmore were merely attempts to locate the island. Once 815 dissapeared in the same location that one of his boatsman (Desmond) did Widmore was able to roughly guage the location of the island and begin his search.
I think there will be another financial backer now who like Widmore is being played by Linus, I’m getting to thinking that this could end up being Sun’s father and a mass war will begin.
Is Ben a bad guy out for his own ends or a guy trying to save the one pure thing the planet has left remains to be seen but this is a hunch I think we will see play out.
I like it Sleepz +1. it would explain nicely why Dan and Charlotte know about the gas and why they are so keen to get Ben.
i like that sleepz’ very good.
i’m trying to find away to tie in sun’s dad, so widmore and sun’s pops are out for finantial game from the island? while ben is the guardian at the gates? i like this alot :)
Interesting theory, makes me think. Would be cool to see a war waged between Paik and Widmore. Actually that is quite believable. +1
I like this, though I could suggest taking it a step back…? I think ‘the purge’ idea was probably ‘the hostiles’. However, the gas they used (presumably manufactured over at the good old Tempest) perhaps got its ingredients or recipe from Widmore’s company? (Widmore is a medical company, right?)
So launching from this idea here, I propose that Ben contacted Widmore first, and made a deal about the Island to secure the deadly gas, and then he cheated on his end of the bargain and left an angry Widmore to find the Island and track Ben down.
I actually think that’s as close as I have got to working out why Widmore wants Ben so bad. Nice one, Sleepz! +1

Sounds good to me.
Dude, nice. +1
Crazy good. The pulled quote alone earned it a plus one.
bull bull bull
I like the original theory better than the extension, Angelo, sorrrryyy!!! it seems like Widmore is too pissed off for this to have just been a bad business deal… I think he wants the island! but it would even make sense why Sayid is on Ben’s side after the scandal… still trying to protect the island (and whoever’s still on it) from the baddies.

Good theory,Sleepz. My take is different though.I think Widmore was backing the DI, the chemicals were to kill the Hostiles, Ben thwarted Widmore and the DI when he joined the Hostiles and orchestrated the purge.
Since then Ben has been hiding the island somehow from Widmore and co.
Your theory has a few more twists to it though so is probably more likely :)
+1 Sleepz, I like it! I don’t know if you played the Find815 game this fall, but in it Widmore was behind finding the fake crash scene too. This would have led him even closer to the island, if he didn’t plant it himself!!
Great ideas. I follow your sentiments as they make very logical sense and would have the mass appeal to appease even the most ardent fan. I think that your hunch is very likely as we know Ben has a strong financial backer and now we know that Widmore is supporting an enemy camp. Whether or not it turns out to be Paik Heavy or possibly Hanso we will have to see. Great reads and very innovative. Great job +1
Just a thought…
rousseau’s team could have been the ones that brought the ingrediants. Ben double crossed them by setting off the poison. He intended to kill them too. Ben didn’t know that they had been given some kind of “antidote” before they came to the island, but some of her team still died. (Maybe she didn’t because she was pregnant.) She then changed the tower message in hopes of getting help.
