I’ve done some research on the Philadelphia experiment of the 1940’s and see a very strong resemblance between that and Lost.

I believe that Darhma is/was the remnance of those scientists who conducted the Philadelphia experiment. The island is like the USS Eldrige in which they tried to make invisible but ended up sending threw time. To do this they used electromagnetic radiation which we all know is very important in Lost. When they performed this experiment it was said that the Eldridge vanished in a flash of blue light, we saw blue light in the sky during the season 2 finale.

In the story of the experiment (which is not proven to be true) when the ship returned most of the crew became sick. For example some of the crew members were getting violently ill (like Minkowski). They were developing schizophrenia. It is said that in certain accounts crew members would just vanish completely here and there. This is like Desmond and Minkowski when they travel to the past/future not physically vanishing but zoning out as if they weren’t there.

You can google the Philadelphia experiment and see what you come up with and add some comments to help with this theory.

There have been several posts and mentions on this website regarding the ‘Phila. Experiment’. I was thinking about reposting something about it a few weeks ago because I think it was necessary to re-introduce it. I didn’t post it but I am glad someone did. Not sure if this experiment will be directly referenced in future episodes but it seems logical to me that this explains some of the mysteries of the show.

Ghost: While you do make some points, I doubt that it was any kind of carry over.

ProfOzone made some very good theories about “The Philadelphia Experiment” and “Montauk Project”.

Do a search with those names or look up ProfOzone on Most Theories/ Comments list, and you will find them.

Btw: Good name saddo! You are indeed “sad”

I recall thesaddo posting about how immature it is to flame other peoples posts, nice to see him take his own advice… as for this theory, we know that the creators of Lost drew from many sources during the initial development of the main mythos which was set way back in season 1. It is highly possible that the Philadelphia experiment played an influencing roll on the shape of the plot.

The only sure way to make a warship disappear is to sink it.

there have been several good theories on the philadelphia experiment, check them out. I think the Philadelphia experiment can be tied into the “cloaking” of the island, and to the “disease” that seems to make certain people nutty.

The disease could also be from a dead polar bear in a spring upstream of the caves.
