My theory relates to Jacob and the fertility problem.
I think that Jacob is impregnating the woman in an attempt to continue his “bloodline”. However he is unable to do this as there is not a correct genetic match. This explains the death of the woman and why Claire survived- her baby was not concieved on the island This would also explain how Sun became pregnant despite Jin been infertile. Jacob chose Ben to lead the others because he knew that he would sympathise with his situation.
