Also, did anyone else notice there is only one cow roaming around? Does the fertility problem effect animals as well? If so, that might have been the only chicken around.

I think Ben is about to usurp Locke’s leadership role. All the Losties, except a few, have followed Locke thinking that he knows what is best . Now he has gone and let Ben out of his cage. John did this to suit his own purposes, not in the well-being of of his new group of followers. Of course now Bens presence in the camp as just another guy is going to tick off a few people.
I started thinking about the chicken Locke killed. Was this the egg laying chicken? If so there won’t be any more eggs. I can barley remember some farmers adage about killing your last egg laying hen. If anyone knows it please post it. I had the feeling that this was suposed to show that Locke isn’t ready to lead anyone. Soon i feel his followers will start to get restless.
“we’re hungry” kill a chicken ‘we’re hungry” last box of Dharma chips “we’re hungry Locke” no more food.
Now Ben can step on up and say “hey, you want food? I can get you food. I can get you anything you want.”

whoops i didn’t mean for that quote up there to be a quote
i can see this happening. It goes well with Sayid working for ben. Not out of want, but out of need.
Ya Ben will take over, Got the feeling
I think its safe to say Ben won’t be the Janitor for Locke’s camp
Lateralus: Good observation!
Ben is now whistling away because he is right where he wants to be. All the diatribe to Locke about how difficult it is to be a leader etc., was to undermine him. It worked! Voila, Team Ben!
