OK, “The Other Woman” was a good episode - esp since it was about Juliette being “the other woman”, but the ending was a bit funky.
Namely, Daniel at the computer console was a bit hard to believe. First of all, he was wearing these huge black rubber gloves, and typing furiously at the control panel keyboard.
Then, as he was trying to shut down the gas tanks and render the toxic gas “inert”, he kept on typing in the same command, “Set valve BC22 closed” over and over with no effect. Anybody who’s dealt with computer command line operations know that issuing the same ineffective command over and over never gets the desired result. And yet, af the umpteenth time Daniel types in the same command, with just a few seconds left before they all die agonizing deaths, the system finally complies and does an orderly shutdown.
It was a just a little too funky for an otherwise very well thought out and produced series. Next time, they need to hire a real programmer to write the computer script! ;-)
Totally Agree! +1
too funny…
i was laughing at that funky scene as well… but then again… why is there this whole computerized gas chamber setup on the island that kills everyone… did you notice the tank leaking… someone call OSHA!!!
I thought of this, too. However, the writers and producers could have just tossed us another clue with this one.
Great observations. I didn’t understand the whole “deadly gas” concept to begin with. Where was the gas going to emerge from? Was it going to be piped over the entire island? Was it going to emerge from the holes in the ground like the smoke monster? Any large scale release froma single point would just drift off in the direction of the wind. Someone explain or theorize what this was all about please. +1
He probably had to enter the same thing for a certain ‘number’ of times..like 42 or 108.. for it to be effective.
+1 the end was silly. Darkufo called it Austin Powers-ish.
Hey thanks.
I also noticed that by the entrance, near the base of the stairs, there’s a big Emergency Power Shutoff Switch. Why didn’t they just use that???
LOL.
And yeah, why have big tanks of poison gas on the Island in the first place, and in a power generation station, at that? What was Dharma thinking?
This may be another case of where real science and Lost science collide. And the results are not so pretty.
If the command had to be entered 42 or 108 times… hasn’t Daniel ever heard of looping batch files?
I blame Windows and other GUI’s. Nobody seems to understand command line language anymore. At least not the Lost writers… hehehe…
