ok, here’s my theory / idea… I need help with it. If this has already been discussed then please forgive me 

I’m trying to figure out if the island is either in the past, is equal to real world time, or is ahead in the future. Right now I’m leaning towards the idea that the island is in the future compared to the real world. Here it goes:

The helicopter time difference:

what we know is that it took a day or so (island time) for the helicopter to make it before there was phone to phone contact between island and ship. So, why does it take the helicopter a day to travel to the ship?

well… it’s all about where you are and perception of time, so here goes nothing:

Let’s say the island is 1 day ahead of the real world. This time difference was chosen as a means of explaining my idea.

We have two locations

1) future location island

2) Past location real world – the ship

Since the island is ahead by a day. To be able to hear of news that the helicopter has arrived the island people must wait one day for the real world to catch up to the moment the helicopter left.

The phones they are using can only be used to speak to other phones like it. Think of the phones as “Time Phones”. So, when the people on island, like jack, call people on the boat they are actually speaking to them one day behind. So, if the helicopter left from a DAY ahead - from island’s perspective of time, the people on the island must wait ONE day before calling the ship and asking about the helicopter. Each time the island people call the ship they talking to them in the past (1 day) compared to island time.

Like Daniel says it’s all about time perception. You have to think of it either from the point of view of being on the island or in the real world. So, from the island’s perspective, they have to wait a day before they can actually call the boat and find out that the helicopter has arrived because the real world has to catch up to the moment the helicopter actually left the island…

Tell me your thoughts please…

That would also explain how Ben(if he did) set up the fake plane crash because he had a day in advance to do it. Also had time to pull the one pilot off so the other pilot could get on. Could also explain why they wanted lists in the beginning(even though there are still numerous reasons why they could, Could of been to replace them on the other plane with look alikes or CLONES I lean toward CLONES.) Now we have the Jack/Ben Connection not just luck a spinal surgeon landed on the island(which is probably all Ben really wanted out of the crash to begin with).

From what I’ve gleaned from everyone’s theories about the time difference is that the Island and the Freighter are in the exact same time (it was Christmas Eve 2004 on both the island and the boat). Any sort of time difference occurs when you cross the electromagnetic barrier between the island and freighter. It seems to take longer to cross through the barrier than it actually does

Balone - THE IDEA OF CLONES HAVE BEEN debunked NOT ONLY ON THIS SITE BUT BY THE writers AND producers OF LOST themselves!!

    hey DC….

what you said about time is NOT yet fact…

things change on the show from one episode to the next. WE do not know yet for sure that time is the same for island, boat, and real world…

you can easily find many clues that push varying theories into many directions at any time…

Thank you DC. Clones have been debunked. Thankfully. As for this theory, well done, although a bit confusing. +1 for imagination.
