Call Jenny - And then try to grow a sense of humor

— Veefre

With the helicopter sporting a definite weight limit, I’m wondering how

(and why) Hurley got off the Island. We’ve seen that, in addition to the pilot, the copter can take at most three more people (Nadia’s body, Desmond, Sayid). A total of four people, pilot plus three passengers.

So if Hurley got a copter ride off the island, he was likely the only passenger. Was this fair to the many who were waiting to escape?

Or, did Farady figure out a way to chart a course for a surface vessel to get to and from the island, safely? Or did Hurley overburden the copter, causing it to crash back onto the freighter, meaning he was the last Lostie to make it out alive?

Oh my God. The strict weight limit was partially due to how low on gas the helicopter was at the time, and I hope there are more interesting reasons as to why the “Oceanic 6” are the “Oceanic 6” that do not involve their body mass. -1

I think the O6 are going to be those that where a good distance from the Swan when it imploded they will be the only ones who are ‘safe’ to leave. Hurley being one of them.

Well, maybe he just floated away.

    Backstroke.

Lojozz - your theory on the 06 and their distance from the electromagnetic anomaly is borderline inspired.

Well, you have to admit that airlifting Hurley -as wonderful as he is - out on a small copter would be a bit of a challenge. Which makes me wonder if perhaps some of the six got out via boat or sub.

BTW, anybody notice the connections between Hurley and the rest? He owns a box company. Locke’s last job was as collections superivsor for a box company. Same company? So Hurley used to be Locke’s superior. According to find815, Sam Thomas (not a LOSTie per se) had investments in a box company, which burned down, but which delivered profits to him on the insurance policy (just how it did this is a bit mysterious).

As for the distance from the hatch explosion being some sort of guarantee of safety - hmmm, didn’t seem to work for Minkowski and his crewmate.

You guys are aware, are you not, that the way Hurley got ON the island was by way of air transportation?

This notion of Hurley’s weight being the reason that more Losties weren’t rescued is just insulting.

I’m sure we are going to see the O-6 make some kind of conscious decision to leave the others behind. Why else would they come to feel guilty?

    Q,

But there is a big difference in load carrying capacity of a Boeing 777 vs a small four-man helicopter, isn’t there?

And haven’t some airlines (not without controversy) instituted restrictions on overweight passengers, in some cases requiring them to purchase two seats to compensate for their well above-average body mass?

But you’re right - it does seem that the Oceanic Six have made some sort of unseemly deal in order to leave the island, and several of them are anguished about that (although it doesn’t seem to bother Kate).
