So… let’s be kind here - obviously this is without much evidence, but I want you to consider something for the purposes of imagination, because, if you had told me in Season 1 that in Season 4 we’d be jumping around time with a Scotsman, I’d say you were crazy too.

I was at a comic book store the other day and I walked by a poster for the X - Men. Obviously a classic comic. I had drawn parallels to this group and Lost in the past : Cyclops, the head strong leader = Jack, even looks like him, his romantic interest, a beautiful and surprisingly powerful woman, Jean Grey. There’s the rogue of the group who toes the line between good and evil who secretly loves the leaders lady, Wolverine = Sawyer. This stuff could be on purpose or it could just be archetypal group dynamic stuff. What struck me this time though opened up my thinking, especially in light of this weeks episode. Initially, through this model I had looked at Locke as a blatant and obvious allusion to Professor X, bald deep guy confined to wheelchair, goes to mysterious island, can walk (it happened!). This poster, however, had an interesting figure in the middle, that of Cable. Cable was a character who appeared to the X Men as an adult, and was later revealed to be the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey (sort of, actually the phoenix, but basically) who had returned to fight alongside them from the future. I started thinking about the loose ends we have to play with in the Lost mythology. Aaron, a character of seemingly great importance, with a blank slate for a future. Locke, a character with a mysterious past, and no parents to speak of. Raised as an orphan and only later in life confronted by people who claim to be his biological family. I started to think about this and I realize Cable has the exact same scar on his right eye as Locke. Also, thematically on Lost we have the ever present struggle between father and son. If you consider this scenario, the conflict between Locke and Jack could easily be seen as similar to that of Jack and his own father. I realize that thus far time travel has only been seen as possible through the spirit and not the physical body, but if the hints are true that Adam and Eve are someone we know now that have gone back to the past and aged why can’t Aaron be staring us in the face as his older self. John Locke.

Interesting theory, so +1 from me :)

I like the parallels with x-men, its something my partner and I have often commented on, though I cant shake the feeling that Locke cant possibly be Aaron.

Firstly, Locke’s dad, the con-man, is blatantly his real father….simply by the fact that his kidney was a perfect match. And that certainly wasn’t the same guy that Claire was hooked up with!

There’s something in the x-men comparison though, I’m sure of it, there have been too many references to comic book hero’s and too many similarities between the two for it to be nothing.

chews lip and ponders some more

    +1 from me.

i love the x-men comparisons, never even crossed my mind.

    so who’s Magneto? Ben?

The problem is that show has still not become that crazy. We don’t have people meeting themselves. There is only one Locke, one Desmond, etc.

Secondly, this is just pure speculation with no evidence. You are correct in that it is wildly unsubstantiated. You seem to be just transplanting X-Men into Lost. It is much more complex than that.

Jax: Thanks for the support. What is the science of kidney transplants? I don’t know. Would it have to be his father for a match? Could Cooper have attained medical knowledge of Locke’s blood type and gone on that alone?

CB: Interesting! I’ll think about it.

Pro: Obviously what’s going on the show is more complex. (I think I was clear if not apologetic in my theory.) What I’m getting at here is this is a show that is born out of many different influences. A mash up of different established stories. There is plenty of originality to it, but often the way it works in TV is producers and writers pitch ideas based on established molds. Initially, Lost was to be “Cast Away meets Survivor”, obviously they’ve grown since then, what I’m trying to do is look at possible roots of that growth. So - while what’s going on may not be someone saying “let’s copy the x men” which obviously it isn’t, it MAY be someone saying “remember that storyline from X - Men, that was so cool. How can we put elements of that in our story”.

Great comparison…probably not going to happen but a very original thought…1 from me!

Have to agree with luv- extremely interesting and original!

As we know, anything is possible on the fabulous show and I enjoy thoughts that come out of the blue like yours…it really makes one think. ;-)

Way to go in standing up for your thoughts too- you made it crystal clear that it wasn’t a “factual” idea. You put it on the title for pete’s sakes…it cracks me up with some of those comments… someone trying to tell you the obvious- like, Hey, guess what- water is wet. LOL

And I think that show IS “that crazy”…it has been since day one and that’s why we love it and “find ourselves LOST” every Thursday! +1 from me…and more if I could give it. :)

I will grant you that Aaron and Locke both seem special in ways that other characters aren’t. Locke, for his communion with the island, and Aaron, for surviving being born on it.

I think it is only a matter of time before we see characters meeting themselves. No time travel story would be complete without it.

Whilst I like the comparissons with X-men. I really don’t think Locke can be Aaron. I just can’t see how he can be adult and child in the same time. How would it work? how has he travelled back to being a child whilst remaining an adult? Also Claire gace birth to Aaron we saw it. Does that mean that Claire is Lockes mother? is Locke adult from the future and travelling back to help his baby self on the island? Wouldn’t that make a mockery of all the Locke flashbacks we’ve seen?

Lojozz - Yes, if this theory is true, then Claire would be considered Locke’s biological mother. It would not, however negate Locke’s flashbacks. The theory here is that at some point in baby Aaron’s childhood he is placed in the past. Actually, come to think of it, it would be interesting to figure out if the years Locke has been alive, (say 60) would be anywhere near the amount of time Adam and Eve have been decomposing, because I would imagine those two events being close to each other in linear time. Hewy: Yeah! I agree!

At this point, anythings possible. I am actually going to entertain this theory and support it! haha. While back off the island, Jack doesnt seem to like the aaron for some reason. Its possible because its locke. Plus Locke did build that baby crib for clare and in the recap episode they did replay that small clip which maybe the producers intended to show the meaning. Also at the time Locke did build the crib it was the first time we saw Locke’s sensitive side which is only shown when his father is present or near the hatch.
