…. part of the “point” of having Claire around was for the whole romance with Charlie

— jen26grl

Someone smart once posted a theory about how to look at Lost. The gist was not to think as a viewer but as a writer. Sure there are rules and a general direction the show must go in. The writers know what can and can not happen on the island however it is impossible for us to figure out completely because there is more than one punchline.

But a lot of things are simply about storyline. An example given was that the food dropped from the sky mostly so that they didn’t have to keep explaining how the survivors got food.

Similarly, I think Claire will get killed off partially just for storyline purposes. I mean part of the “point” of having Claire around was for the whole romance with Charlie. Charlie, as we know, is dead. He served his purpose (and probably finished his contract) and was killed off.

The way to think is: Is there a reason for the witers to keep Claire alive? Well it’s a fair assumption that there will be a face-off between Locke’s crew and Jack’s. It would be pretty dramatic if Claire, the sympathetic blonde mother with the baby, got killed during the struggle/fight.

Practically speaking, we know that Kate is Aaron’s “mummy” in the future. This means that Aaron is with Kate, not with Claire. If Claire dies, that would explain why Kate would have him.

It also explains why Jack refuses to see the child. I believe it’s because he feels responsible for Claire’s death (the whole altercation with Locke thing). My best bet would be that in order to get off the island, John had to get his hands on Ben because that was the visitors mission. That’s why he had to confront Locke who is holding Ben prisoner.

We know the Jack has guilt issues and a huge conscience. He wants to get off that island so badly he is willing to make whatever deal he has to. Kate possibly is influential in the convincing process. Julliette probably has some say as well. We know she doesn’t get off the island though which I think is interesting. Perhaps she also dies in the altercation.

In any case, it’s really interesting now that Lost is starting to offer some real answers.

Maybe everyone dies except the Oceanic Six.

Except Locke, of course, who is in the casket.

Nice~ I agree with you on most parts. However, I can’t see them keeping Claire around just for a romantic storyline…at least I hope not anyway. :) It’s definitely an interesting thought that she would be killed via confrontation between Team Locke and Team Jack. The immense destructive behavior Jack imposes on himself when he feels guilt- gives good reason for not wanting to see Aaron. I can see your theory fitting in well. +1

Doesn’t work for me. We have put a certain amount of stock in Desmond’s flashes. He told Charlie that he sees Claire and Aaron getting on a helicopter if he, Charlie, sacrifices himself. If Claire dies before being rescued it means that either Desmond is NOT seeing the future, or that Desmond is lying for some reason.

ALSO…we have the psychic who apparently has arranged for Claire to raise Aaron because danger surrounds him and he will only be safe if Claire is around.

If we get rid of Claire we pretty much chuck some of our most interesting storylines, storylines that we were all very invested in, and I’d be disappointed if the writers just went POOF with it.

What about the ripple affect of time travel? I mean if the stuff that Desmund does in the last episode had actually happened in 1996 before he went back wouldn’t he have remembered it?

As for the flashes, we don’t know that he was seeing the future. In fact we know that he is only seeing possible futures. He sees Charlie die a number of times and only one ends up panning out.

And as for the psychic, good point. That means that Aaron is in danger with Kate which wouldn’t surprise me. It could be part of why Jack feels so uncomfortable about Aaron in the future.
