I know people enjoy posting theories (and I love reading them), but I also enjoy reading simple observations. There is SO MUCH in any given episode of Lost, that I miss a lot of simple points. So, in an effort to help with all of our theories, I’d like to just make a couple observations. Here goes…
I noticed the focus on the 2004 calendar during “The Constant.” First, I checked to make sure it was an actual 2004 calendar and yes, the dates did match. Then, I noticed the different colors used for the X’s. I’m posting this because I was curious if anyone had any ideas. All X’s are purple, except…
October 20, 21, 22, 23 - Yellow X’s November 4, 5, 11, 21, 27, 29, 30 - Red X’s December 6, 7, 10, 14, 15, 18, 20 - Red X’s
Everything on Lost happens for a reason. Why the different colored X’s?
Also, Sayid said, “I didn’t realize it was almost Christmas.” But he wasn’t in shock about the date. If time on the island was way off from the rest of the world, he would have said something like, “What, we’ve only been on the island for a few weeks!” or, “What, we’ve been on the island for a year!” And I doubt it was a “fake” calendar, because the crew didn’t know any “Losties” were coming to the ship.
Now, maybe they were using the calendar to keep track of island time, but Penny does have a Christmas tree up, so the two timelines do seem to match up.
hmmm…maybe sayid shows no surprise because he already knows everything, maybe ben’s man on the boat IS sayid!! either he got filled in on everything whilst locked in the canteen with ben,or he’s been in on it for a while, after all,he does end up working mr linus,so who’s to say that the “flash forward” we seen in which sayid was assasinating on bens (and presumably for the oceanic 6) instructions, wasnt indeed a flashback and bens getting sayid to eliminate the people behind all of this frieghter stuff b4 making sure he had this “man on the boat”.?
that’s really interesting I didn’t even notice that the x’s were different. I’m sure it means something but who knows what lol.
I also agree that simple observations can be super helpful. When I read these theories I feel like I must have missed half the show sometimes because there’s so much I missed! +1
Great observation what! No clue as to what the different colored X’s could be giving reference to…if anything at all, but it’s something to ponder. +1 for your sharp eye~
I made the same point and I was told that time isn’t different on the island or on the boat it is only different between the boat and the island, so now I’m more confused than ever
Dave,
Haha. When I sit and think about Lost, sometimes I feel like my brain is going to short circuit. Luckily, I have a constant too. His name is Sam Adams. ;-)
I think there is a couple of hours’ difference on the boat and the island.
Like, following those coordinates sends you through a wormhole to the exact same universe you came from, but time speeds up or reverses as you do pass that hole for a few hours. In the last episode it was a few hours maybe it varies.
Nice highlight. I haven’t the faintest idea what it could mean!
As you say i think the calendar es used to keep track of something on the island since it’s in the communications room. I wonder when would the yellow Xs would be… I mean, what episode was it? maybe the end of season 2 when Desmond blew up the Swan?
I just think it adds a certain air of realism to the show not to have all the Xs the same color. Sort of like somebody was marking the days off each day to keep track of what day it is, using whatever pen was handy. You have seen something like this in real life, haven’t you?
