ok, first theory so be nice :P firstly the smoke monster .. it has been implied that it is maybe the personification of jacob… my main reason to belive this is that when we saw mr eko’s brother ( emmi ? ) say to him ” you talk to me as if i were your brother” and walk off we are led to belive this is perhaps the smoke monster, when emmi quotes this you will notice he is covered in mud and dirt..perhaps because the monster has been goin underground on the tracks and is dirty from that…
i kinda dis-owned that whole thing thinking it was nothing , BUT when locke returns to the cabin , the cabin is surrounded by what seems to be ashes, ( from the smoke ) and we see briefly like a smoke over jacobs chair ..
ok not really alot so far but bare with me
when chritsian is in the cabin locke asks if hes jacob and he sais ” i can talk on behalf of him” this would make me understand jacob is inside him ( ahem! ) an can make him personificate his words an actions as jacob maybe doesnt have a body..
but the thing that really pulled me in…
when jack is seein his dad back home an keeps getting interupted by tht stupid nurse everytime we see him .. the smoke alarm is goin off…coincedence?? or is this a big implication that christian is connected to the smoke monster

Whilst I can’t disagree with how you’ve pulled these threads together to make the picture you have, I still resists the Jacob is the Black Smoke theory.
For one thing, when Ben went and appeared to summon the Black Smoke to take out Keamy and his men during The Shape Of Things To Come it suggested Ben had some level of control of it.
That means Ben summoned Jacob, as the Black Smoke, to do his bidding. Considering Jacob had decided to cast Ben off the Island by this stage, and doesn’t seem like the type of guy that takes orders, this Black Smoke is Jacob idea just doesn’t seem to fit for me.

Why does Jacob appear as Christian when Locke doesn’t know who Christian is ?
Also the smoke alarm noise was the battery low siignal. Doesn’t affect your theory because it could be interpreted that as meaning that it should have gone off but didn’t.
Another question though. Is Ben aware that it was not Jacob that told Locke to move the island, but Christian?
good question JacksEyes. I don’t think Locke ever told Ben it was Christian that told him to move the island. That might explain the terrible things that happen after the O6 leave.
