“where he belongs. Which is not here”

— BenHasAPlan

Ever since The Man Behind the Curtain, Jacob has been my favorite mystery on LOST. I don’t mind being surprised by Smokey or pregnancies in 2010, but I’d give up a paycheck to have Darlton lay out the Jacob angle for me.

And while I’m kind of surprised to be saying this myself, I feel like I may actually have it worked out to an extent. Bold words, I know. And new episodes could easily shatter my theory so don’t break my balls too hard. But from what we know thus far, this feels like the smart money…

-Who have Jacob’s followers, the Others, had their eye on since day one?

-Who was born on the island?

-Who was prophecized to be destined for terrible things (like no longer being loved by God?) if not raised by his birth mother, and then is not raised by his birth mother? A prophecy made trembling with terror.

-Whose destiny is pretty much screwed as a result of wild scientific experimentation, screwing with electromagnetism, bending time into pretzels, and a shit storm of people manipulating people? Might it make a person “hate technology” and be “not a forgiving man?”

-Who might allow his grandfather to “speak on his behalf?” And whose grandfather might speak on his behalf to Locke, the man told to “get the family back together?”

-Who, when Locke asks where he is while in jacob’s cabin, is described as “where he belongs. Which is not here”? Afterall, we can’t have bunny 15 coming into contact with bunny 15.

-And lastly, who have “we seen on screen but has not had a spoken line?”

Could Aaron Littleton be Jacob? Dharma fails and the world is to end as predicted by the unchanged core Vallenzetti values. But Jacob/Aaron knows how to move the island (I’m convinced island moving is purely about time, NOT location) to a time many many years into the past, to the time of slave ships and hieroglyphics, where through patience and careful course correction, he and those he chooses to communicate with will try once again to get it right. Perhaps he, unstuck in time, is ultimately trying to find his constant?

There are still a lot of holes left from this, that’s for damn sure, but that’s what seasons 5 and 6 are for :) I just think between the psychic’s frantic warnings, Christian’s insistence Aaron doesn’t belong in the cabin, and the clue about appearing but not speaking a line, it almost feels like a no-brainer at this point.

Thoughts? :)

PS. Oh yeah, if this IS actually on the right track, the big clue in the pilot may have something to do with Claire and/or her belly. Worth a look, I s’pose.

Could one of you fine people tell me the podcast or interview where Darlton actually said that Jacob has been on screen but hasn’t spoken a word. If it exists at all. Thank You. +1

i was just about to say what lost4815162342 said… i’ve never heard this little snippet of info about jacob being on screen but not speaking before, but a few people on here are using it to bolster their theories.

could we get a link or something?

I saw it quoted somewhere long ago, but it might’ve just been some internet video. Wherever it was, it seemed believable. If that quote never took place, I pretty much rescind this theory. I have 2 theories about Jacob, and that quote being brought up in FeralFish’s post seemed like the deciding factor on which to post. If that quote is confirmed a hoax, I’ll post up the other one. It ties more stuff together tighter, but involves someone with a speaking role.

Nice angle, better than your mates suggestion of Locke and Jack being “fused” together lol If Aaron is indeed Jacob then why did Kate have a dream that included Claire telling not to bring him back? Dya reckon this is a Dark Force intervening with Jacobs apparations and thus telling the O6 to stay away therefore not solving whatever it is they are reaching towards?? I’d like to know why the others took all the other kids from the tail section and what the hell is cindy’s deal. She’s been there like forever!!!

I also know that Darlton have said that we have seen Jacob but not heard him?? Would that include a baby crying though?? Your theory could fall apart right there? +1

take a look at the episode where Ana Lucia kills Shanon… there are few images pointing towards a tree at a moment… I think I saw someone inside but it is too fast… can anyone check if it is actually Jacob? according to my theory, I wouldn’t be surprised if he must be hidden in trees… that’s probably why Horace from the DI builds a cabin using wood and not rocks or other raw materials…

we are close to crack Lost…

Jacob hides in trees, ive heard it all now! If Horace was felling trees wouldnt that cause jacob a problem if he was in one of them? lol

A log cabin is more plausible and portable than a cave. Aint you got dogs to chase :-)

we’ll see later mate!!! I have evidence from season 1 and not the others… have you, Jackofalltrades?

why the hell would the DI build a cabin? for kids?

have you seen the barracks? it looks like the American dream, right? water, showers, fridges…

but they build a rubbish cabin without electricity, looking like crap where no flash light is allowed…

    what do you think?

PS: just try to open your mind! PS’: I’m right about the dogs! why would they be here anyway? ;-))

My only question would be, “why rescind your theory, just because Jacob may or may not be a character that has spoken yet?” It seems like a nice credible theory either way. In fact I quite like it. +1 for a nice new take.

LittleBen, I appreciate that. The theory wouldn’t be killed dead if the character has spoken. Just wouldn’t be nearly as “certain” (using the term relatively)

Blacksmokemiror: while i dont know about seeing jacob in a tree or anything, that’s still an interesting thought about the wood. Many scenes have suggested to us that water is very important. perhaps the island gets it’s powers from it’s water and, thus, a cabin built of pure islandwood might have some spooky properties? Sh!t, that could even explain the orange juice significance some have pointed out. Screw Florida, I want pure 100% The Island brand OJ as part of my complete breakfast!

I like this theory— especially the part about Aaron not seeing Jacob (because 15 can’t see 15). Then again, it could be that Aaron is where he belongs, which isn’t here, because he’s suppose to go with the 06 and get off the island. Could just be a reference to Aaron’s fate.

Another thought in support of your theory— How the hell does Aaron survive anyway? Plane crashes, helicopter crashes, a newborn in the jungle. He’s kind of like Vincent in that way… And I’ll put money on Vincent being Jacob’s dog.

I was thinking of that this morning! I re-read what I wrote about the clue in the pilot being about Claire. And how it’s supposedly staring us in the face. An unborn baby surviving a plane crash? Duhhh? lol

As for Vincent.. I’m game for that theory, but why the picture of a different dog in the cabin?

Hey, who knows if this theory plays out, but I liked reading it! ; )

I like this theory! And I also seem to recall about the “Jacob having been on screen but without a spoken line” stuff, but I surely couldn’t tell from where…

    Anyway , +1!

That bit of info on Jacob never speaking but being on screen is on one of the most recent pod casts… and think they just used the same actor as an background extra in the pilot episode… someone you never see again… I also read something about the guy who appear on screen as Jacob was the props director or some other person who just happened to be working on the set..

BenHasAPlan; You’ve opened up a nice little debate. The ‘water’ theme that runs throughout lost (I mean every other scene someone is offering someone bottle of water : ) always reminds me of Donnie Darko. Coupling this with a strong sense of time/consciousness shifting and it seems to match up, in an albeit loose way; “Water is the barrier element for the construction of Time Portals used as gateways between Universes at the Tangent Vortex.” - element of the 4th dimension?

  16. BenHasAPlan Jul 30, 2008 9:30 a.m. Comment: 16

Yeah ever since typing that ive been thinking about what the implications might be if the power was in the water.

-the island itself would be mega powerful -the area where ben and juliet do their work in season 3, holding jack captive, is all under water -the donkey wheel is way low underground ie. probably surrounded by water. and inside its all ice. frozen island water. -the rain would make things happen -the fish theyve been eating might make things happen -hurley has been wanting to do a cannon ball

it may all be nothing, but they have definitely called our attention to water more than once.
