Yes sirree. Its our favorite doctor with MPD. The dude in the orientation videos. The mystery man of the hour. Its no other than Dr. Marvin Candle aka Dr. Edgar Halliwax aka Dr. Mark Wickmund. From the get-go, I knew there was something wrong with this man. On one occasion, you see him with one prosthetic arm, the next he’s wearing turtle neck t-shirts holding rabbits and putting them in mysterious vaults.
So anyway, while riding a bus home, I just had a friggin conundrum about this doctor. This may be a clue to his real identity I dunno, I haven’t figured it out yet but I thought I’d just lay it on the table. So get this, his first identity is Marvin Candle. Then there’s also Edgar Halliwax. And he also goes by the name of Mark Wickmund.
Candle, Halliwax, Wickmund.
halli-wax, wick-mund and CANDLE.
OMFG dude.
Wax + Wick = Candle.
Is this a clue or what? I dunno if this has been discussed before but that is really strange. I’m trying to pull something out of it but I can’t get one. Follow-up educated guesses is more than welcome.

The orientation videos are a manipulation and the man in them is an actor, thus the various names of his “characters”. Well, he’s a scientist, but in the videos he’s serving as an actor. None of the names are his real one.
Or… at least this is what I gather.
You seem really excited, but unfortunately this has been basic knowledge for a while now. All his names revolve around candle, wax, wick. Nobody has really thrown a good theory out about what this means yet.
Writers use the same technique on the Simpsons for those cartoon documentaries. Sorry boss, nothing here.
Why is the doctor Asian when all the Dharma folks (save Bea) are white? Seems unusual to me for such a homogeneous society to have an Asian actor doing the instructions…
This is nothing new. However, I think the clue the writers are giving us is obvious…what does a candle do? It gives light. I think the dr. is named because he is giving light to (in all it’s metaphorical wonder) the initiative of Dharma. Now, we just have to figure out what happened to him? I doubt he was purged….
