I’ve been thinking about how Abbadon could fit into the overall story (apart from being Walt from the future) and I thought perhaps he could be the hinted at, former leader of the Others that ordered the purge?
A lot of people think it was Widmore, but something about that just doesn’t make sense to me. We know Charles Widmore was at one time a financial backer of the DI and I think that he was on the island with the DI overseeing the projects.
At first they lived peacefully with the Hostiles but then the DI started to do things the natives disagreed with (like building the Orchid and the Swan) and so Widmore, seeing only the material benefits the projects promised to bring him, armed the DI and told them to kill any natives that interfere, which some did, some though had misgivings and eventually defected to the natives. At this point Widmore decided the island was no longer safe and left the island, but back in the real world he began to recruit people with military training for the DI, such as Kelvin to continue the purge.
At this point Abbadon decided that the only thing they could do for the island was to kill all the Dharma people on the island. With the help of insiders such as Ben they did it, after this Jacob told Abbadon that the island had to be moved to prevent Widmore from sending in more troops. The island hadn’t been moved in living memory and nobody knew what would happen, so when Abbadon moved it he was surprised to find that it had taken him off the island and as he eventually learned he couldn’t find his way back.
Cheated out of his position and his home there was only one person Abbadon could turn to, Charles Widmore a man who wanted to find the island as badly as he did. Abbadon told Widmore the true nature of the island he wanted to exploit and this provided Widmore with an incentive to work with him to locate it and take it back.

Interesting theory. We don’t know if Abbadon actually works for Widmore yet. I still would say the Walt theory is a little more likely.
Yeah I like the Walt theory as the conversation does seem to be similar to what Locke said to Walt in the pilot episode, I’m just trying to find an alternative to Widmore being the others former leader, time’s gonna tell I suppose.
Yeah, I don’t believe Widmore was the leader of the others either.
interesting, i would rate you a +1 but for some reason my ratings never show.
