It just occurred to me that the Freighter Folks maintained they were there for Ben, but in the post island scene between Ben and Widmore, Widmore seemingly wants nothing from Ben. So then, was their goal: A: To simply get Ben off the island, but go where he wants B: Something else, using Ben only as a cover story C: Or were they sent to get Ben, but for someone other than Widmore?

Two points. Apparently capturing him at that time was important to Widmore. Also, after Ben left the island, he may not be as valuable to Widmore. And, finally, even though Ben was in Widmore’s apartment, he was probably in no danger of being captured.. Being captured on the island is different than being captured out in the real world. Why this is so, I have no idea. Probably has something to do with those rules Widmore changed.
I never thought of the fact that someone other than Widmore could have been looking for Ben Maybe since it seems to be that Widmore and Ben cannot kill eachother possibly since Paik and Widmore are working together Paik is able to kill Ben. Maybe thats who really sent the frieghter? i duno..just speculation +1 for bringing up topics of discussion
The reason Widmore isn’t “interested” in capturing Ben anymore is because Widmore’s goal is to regain control of the island. Ben moved the island, resulting in his being sent off of the island, which makes him really of no use to Widmore anymore. Granted there may be personal issues between the two but the island is the ultimate goal - for both of them.
I am not sure writers will get out of this mess they have created.
I think Widmore is Ben’s constant is why he can’t kill him, but remember when we first see Naomi she says she’s there to find Desmond. I thought Abbadon hired Naomi, Miles,Faraday and Frank to look for survivors on the island,so who told her about Desmond? and did they just happen to catch a ride on freighter with people who were on their way to kill Ben? I’ve always been confused about whos working for who,and if Michael had access to every room on the freighter and was going around breaking radios and other things why didn’t he notice the huge pile of explosives? I guess the simple answer is everyone on the show is a liar.
