WTF sounds good to me. Though, I don’t have a problem with non-theories as long as they are labelled as such.

Thanks Lojozz, I could be reading the whole situation wrong in which case apologise but I just thought that maybe some theorists might be wishing their posts could stay on the page a bit longer.

So, I’ll second what I have already commented elsewhere. Yes, this is a good idea. And, as a courtesy, if anyone does flag a theory they ought to mention it in the comments that they have done so (as I believe you have just done with the ‘Location’ theory, WTF.) It will act as information for the person that posted, and a signal for others to follow suit if they feel the same.

It’s a good idea… why don’t the mods create a “not a theory section”?

Hi bond. We have no mods.We have a ‘ not a theory’ section but its up to the members to flag ‘not a theory’ because we are self moderated. Thus Trolls lol.

Good idea WTF. I have to say though the way Jeff set up the forum makes it a bit difficult in the “livability” category. I know he created this site as an experiment, just wish there was a way to make changes - like adding a pull down for posters to create threads in a “not a Theory” or “Off Topic” section. Oh well, it is what it is and we’re lucky to have it at all! OK I’ll get off my soapbox now…. sorry for the tangent post.

I agree with your idea wtf, it should help the relevant gain a longer shelf live. +1 for a creative and timely idea!!

wtf, I am glad you brought this up again, as I was wanting to address this concern myself, but I didn’t know how to do it ,in a way that didn’t make it look as if we shouldn’t have a little lighthearted fun ,mixed into this wonderful site and group of great people! Wow ,that sure was a long sentence!!!

After reading your and dab’s discussion here: http://www.lost-theories.com/theories/2008/jan/28/movies-lost/ The reason I am putting in the link, is so anyone that wants to may have a good example,of what this is all about.( If you did not see it)That post has 81 comments to it and was put up just 3 days ago, and it is already at the bottom of page 2. ( I am referring to the last 10 comments) I know this is getting long so I will conclude it shortly.What if we started flagging some as Obsolete?. There are no posts in that category at all. I am as guilty, as anyone of sometimes turning a post into a chat! I realize that may not be a real good alternative, as there are possibly ,some that could be offended by this.

Speaking for myself though, it is very time consuming to try and read everything you want to,when one day can turn into two pages of material. Okay,I am off my soapbox now!!

I have never said anything on this site to attack anyone, and I must admit that I am very hurt by those remarks you made Dab.I was looking very much forward to tonight’s first new episode in a very long time.Now that is somewhat clouded. If you meant to hurt me , then you have succeeded.

To be clear, I was agreeing with WTF’s post….I hadn’t even read the comments.

Since the obsolete section is never used, how difficult would it be to simply re-appoint it as the “chat” button, for questions, rafts, vids etc?

I hope I haven’t offended anyone with my chats with figgy, I saw it as sociable humor during the lull, and didn’t differentiate it from many of the other types of posts I see regularly. It seems to have inspired a backlash though. For that, I apologize.

WTF, I personally learn from most of the questions which are posed, even though they are not theories, so I am torn in that regard. Many are quite valid!

What I know you ARE referring to, is the endless posts of late, which are repetitive in nature, asking the same things over and over. Perhaps, you should add to your post, that people can obtain some of the basic information on DarkUfo, or Lostpedia, and to be respectful with the questions they are placing on this site. There is no easy solution, I am afraid.

ozzig there’s no way to create a post in the obsolete section. All posts are placed on the theories section and only when flagged by enough members are they moved to the other areas. That’s why wtf’s suggestion here is so good.

KSJ, As this post was referring to the posts as opposed to the content in them, yes I was offended. What people do or say, in my humble opinion is their business quite frankly, and not the business of anyone else!

Because you chose to go in another direction, which had no bearing in my opinion, I feel you are trying to dictate to others. I don’t know if that was your intention, or not, only you know the answer to that!

I didnt mean to cause friction.I’ll just clarify what I meant but I guess its obvious that we all cant really agree on anything( ahhh diversity lol).

1.My post had nothing to do with the amount of comments in a post as it doesn’t shorten or affect the time theories stay on page1. Once a post is up use it to comment on, I say.I also think its great when posts are recycled in a way for communication such as the old CF posts were.nuff said.

2.I really don’t want to judge a theories worthiness to stay as a theory. Just general questions, general information such as links to music clips,off topic posts etc (once they have run their course)and you can still find them, they’ve just been moved.

I think this idea needs further discussion and maybe today wasn’t the best day for it but I think now would be a good time for any lurkers to have their say also.

Why was the figgyfox post made a scapegoat for the “problem”?

First, it was a valid opinion post, it was not “fluff”, it was just a reminder to people to not try to assign every movie plot out there to Lost. It was a more valid post than a lot of stuff posted daily. More valid than half of the junk that was posted on the same page at the same time as that one!

It did turn into a chat, yes it did, on the willing authors own post, at the invitation of said author. Anyone was invited to join, for either chat or opinion purposes, no one was forced to read a damned word of it if they didn’t want . And there was absolutely nothing about it that was any worse than all the questions, raft, polls, vids, and whatnots that I have seen posted regularly since forever.

So why was that one pointed out as a prime example of “the problem” ? When every other post is the exact same question, observation or theory as what was posted 5 posts before it? THERE is the problem, not this one post. I don’t give a hairy rats ass how many comments were on it, comments don’t take up room on the message board !

I am very upset about this. If there is anyone who has never liked my socializing or joking around, today could be your lucky day, as I’m inclined to never say a sociable/joking word to anyone ever again.

The comment by StepitupJack (in that post)is what prompted me to make this post.

Well, I’m not as upset as earlier, and I do understand that what all this is about is the last 10 or so comments. It was just the mention about how it had turned into a chat and suggesting posts that turn into chats are a site problem. I took exception to my own chat being pointed out like it was a problem period, but esp when there are so many other chats. Guess my feelings were hurt that a conversation between 2 people on one of their own threads was considered a problem.

Anyway, I apologize to KSJ if my own upset has upset you, and I’m afraid it probably did.

I really probably should not come on here and make anymore comments on this, but I need to try and put it behind me. I realize now that I made a very poor decision about putting a link up to that post. Believe me when I say ,that I was not in anyway attacking that particular post, or would I anyone’s for that matter. I actually was just using that number 10 to give a broader look at the subject. The one thing in particular that I was trying to agree on,was the comment that was made concerning AC’s very well written series on the different stations on the island,and how they were getting a little covered up by so many posts.

I do not expect, or think I should receive any apologies from anyone. I should know that sometimes a persons words can be mistaken for something other than how they are intended. The thing is I was only trying to agree, and that is is all.

I am still feeling, quite a bit hurt from this, and probably should refrain from making any more comments.

KSJ, No need to worry! Life is all about making mistakes, and we all make them! Learning from them is the key!

I really attempted to see the good will and intent, but was completely overwhelmed by the reference. It is unwise to make personal references about anyone for any reason, under any circumstance! I think that is the lesson! You and I have been down this road before, so let us hope the road has come to an end!

KSJ, a board like this is the most difficult to communicate on. We can’t edit our comments and we can’t Private Message each other. Occasionally there will be mis-communications but you can only hope that the people who know you well (even if it is only online)will be willing to give the benefit of the doubt and query your meaning so things can be sorted out.

Another good theory that was posted yesterday by fivestades is now on page 2 and likely on page 3 by noon. It’s going fast and not getting the attention it deserves. People should check it out before it’s too far buried under crap.
