This might be half correct.
Back in June I theorized that what we’ve been watching is the Losties’ 2nd time (or 3rd, or 4th…) on the island. I continue to stand firmly by that theory, which bears revisiting considering we’re diving back in on Thursday. Please see post http://lost-theories.com/theories/2007/jul/05/lockes-wheelchair-hurleys-numb/
Furthermore, after spending a good deal of time on find815.com, I also have a strong hunch that Jacob is James Clerk Maxwell—a theory that I posted here http://lost-theories.com/theories/2008/jan/27/jc-maxwell-lines-force-and-sag/
Sorry for essentially reposting these theories, but I wanted them consolidated and with a tidier name.
I really agree with you that at least some of the Losties having been on the Island before. I suspected from the first few episodes of Season 1 that Locke has been there before and vaguely remembered or intuited it. Now I think he knows for sure. Hmm… Maxwell as Jacob. As cool as that would be, I have some observations and questions: 1) other than the beards, they really don’t look much like each other but you know, I’m willing to suspend disbelief on that. 2) As you state, many others built upon Maxwell’s theories, that is, AFTER Maxwell. So why would Jacob be Maxwell, instead of say, Einstein? 3) Do you think Maxwell did some sort of experiment on himself involving his theories and er… got sucked into a wormhole onto the Island and is stuck in some nether time/universe? That would be cool, gotta say.
I agree completely about this not being their first time on the island. Chronologically, I think the “flash-forward” at the end of season three actually occurred before season one episode one, and that everything that we have been watching is the losties return to the island. If you remember, before the losties go in search of the radio tower at the end of season three, Kate says to Jack something to the effect of “Here we go again”.
cj, I agree with you: ´bout that last part “We have to go back” . I think it was a Flash Back, not a Flash Forward…
ACK!!
My head is spinning off my shoulders! Flash back , flash forward let’s call the whole thing off. :P
And here I was certain that Jacob was Magnus Hanso.
Ah well, 48 hours and I will be sated.

is someone suggesting that the LOST creators are ripping off the hilarious hijinx of Groundhog’s Day? Bill Murray would be spinning in his grave if he were in fact dead or capable of spinning. what next? An appearance my Andie MacDowell?
