For a long time now it has puzzled me as to why the Others were dressed like tramps in the first 2 seasons. I read somewhere the other day at last a quote from someone that could shed some light on the matter, let me know what you think..
The Others dressed up in disguise as to avoid being any of the Losties Constant! With all the time travelling going on, there could be a point in the future, or even in the past where one of the others comes across one of the Losties. It could also be because they don’t want to be recognised so the Others could travel forward or backwards and be themselves, but whist on the island they would never be recognised.
This questions is one that has really bugged me for a long time, if you don’t think this is anywhere near the answer i would be keen to enrol your thoughts and theories
Cheers
only reson y they dressed up were to doisguise themselves from the losties. The losties know they are there and who they are so they dont have a reason to dress up anymore. i think the time loop theory is incorrect. I thinnk time travel has a little to do with it but only a small part.
And the fake hut village on the coast too. Was all that and the costumes set up to trick the survivors, or were there other people they were trying to trick?
You know I don’t really see how this works. So they did it in order to not be recognized, on the off chance they meet up with a lostie? That doesn’t really explain why they no longer dress up, or the fact that dressing up would do little to avoid recognition. It’s not as though every time you put on a differnt shirt you have to reintroduce yourself to your parents. And if you mention Tom’s beard, sure, but he was the only one.
No, this was done purely as part of the war that we now know to exist. The Other’s didn’t know who the losties were, or how to use them, and the best way to keep them in check until they figured it out was to spy on them by blending in to seem as if they were one of them. And on the chance that the losties found either their camp, or one of the hatches, the Other’s had to appear as though they were wild men, and not in charge of what was going on. And now after all that has happened, they’ve determined how they want to use the castaways, the jig is up, and there’s no reason to dress that way any longer.
thats actually a very good explanation and is probably spot on, thank you, i just couldn’t think of the reason, but that is quite good, i must admit i did suspect that but thought it would be something more to do with the time element
i’ll go with you!!!
so they were all just trying to avoid “the sickness”? Could the freighter people be experiencing the same thing as Rouseau’s people?
How did the Black Rock diary make it off the island?
