LOST-Theories.com

i saw a few minutes of a show on history channel the other day and it reminded me of lost.

the segment i was watching was about the idea of tunnels through the earth to connect different parts of the planet. if we had a tunnel between los angeles and sydney an elevator type contraption could freefall through the earth and it would take 42 minutes. (physisists calculate this based on gravity)

now these tunnels could connect any two points on the surface of the earth even if they are not on directly opposite ends. no matter where the two points are, the travel time is ALWAYS 42 minutes.

have any of you guys seen this and did where you reminded of lost travel and of course the 42 minutes?

Are you suggesting that were there a hole straight through the Earth, if I fell straight down I would still be falling by the time I got to Austrailia? I believe you would stop in the center of the Earth after you pass it, slow down and come back. That process would take several rotations, but eventually you would stop in the center of the earth. Let’s not forget that you would burn up while attempting this.

If you simply mean that should the force of gravity continue and your speed at terminal velocity be the primary factor, you would be able to cover the distance of Earth’s width in 42 minutes, although it couldn’t actually be done, then yes that’s interesting.

Worm holes of course don’t exist, but assuming they do in the Lost Universe, do they propel a person at the exact same velocity as gravitational force would?

i think you’re on to something, but can;t answer your question im afraid.

    A gravity train.

That theory actually states that if you could ignore the extreme heat, the massive pressure and the change in gravity that would ultimately stop you from falling through the hole, you would fall through in about 42 minutes.

BUT… You would burn up. Or be crushed. Or just stop in the middle and float…

yes highbrow but lost ignores what you can and can’t do, if it’s entertaining time travel and teleportation im sure travelling through the earths centre is nothing.

Well, personally I fell in the yard the other day, and woke up in China in 1984. I made it to Shanghai and bought 10,000 worth of Microsoft. Then, lightening struck, I found my constant, Daisy Duke, and woke up here, just prior to writing this comment. I checked my bank balance and appearantly I am a multimillionaire. Appearantly I sold all my microsoft stock and invested in oil futures. I also now have a tatoo in Chinese that I have no idea the translation of.

yes im ignoring the physical imposibility of this. one would speed towards the center of the earth and then gravity on the other side would slow your velocity to zero at the other end.

what if darma created a way that your body became phantom like for you to pass through the earth and then when you reach the other side become a solid again?

    just a thought

The show allows things to happen that we don’t know are possible or impossible. Time travel being one of those things. Why do people find it so hard to believe?

Travelling through a hole all the way through the earth? Scientists (and everyday people on the streets) can tell you exactly why that’s impossible.

so what are you saying highbrow?

I’m saying Miles is in the coffin…

No, really. Time travel is possible. In the show, in the real world. Travelling through the earth? Not possible.
