I can’t help but think Jack is beginning to get flashes, and that is why he’s sick.
Daniel makes some excuse as to why the sat phone isn’t working, Bernard insists they can still use it as a telegraph, then Daniel begins to explain what he’ll need to fix the phone. At that moment, when Daniel is speaking, Jack gives a very interesting look—as though he’s remembering something he’s heard before… a look beyond mere suspicion; more like recognition. I believe he’s having a flash, ala Desmond. That’s when he beckons Bernard and says, “got a second, Bernard?”
Whatever Jack says to Bernard is off-screen, but I’m sure Bernard’s mention of “telegraphing” a message made Jack think Bernard WOULD know Morse code; furthermore, I think Jack recalled Rose saying, a while back, that a) Bernard was a dentist and b) when he wasn’t causing people pain he tinkered with his radios whenever he got the chance….
So I’m also sure Jack told Bernard to listen carefully to any message they received in case they managed to turn the phone into a telegrapher of Morse code (and I believe Jack KNEW it would get to working again).
When Bernard translates the message saying the (freighter) doctor is fine, revealing Daniel to be a liar, I don’t think Jack is ONLY angry about Daniel lying to them, I think he understood that his “flash” was not just some sort of weird daydream, but an actual real picture of “the future” (which, I believe, he only THINKS is the future; he, like Desmond, has probably lived this “flash” before.
Jack then pukes at little at the end of the episode (just like Ben does when he wakes up in Tunisia).

Actually, no wonder Jacks sick…two deadly GFs and one beach.
I heard Jacks sick coz his appendix blows or something.
I think his illness is a ploy to get him taken to the freighter. And I think Frank Lapidus is just dumb enough to fall for it!
Jack is the devil.
I know the preview suggests he has appendicitis—or rather Juliet says this. Yes, it’s possible—or even highly likely. But I am one of the ones who also believes that Jack landing in the jungle in the Pilot is no accident.
Besides, if being sick is the only way to get on the freighter, then why can’t Sun, who is pregnant, go. And, furthermore, the freighter doc is dead. I guess there’s Juliet…we shall see tomorrow…
I don’t think you need flashess to explain Jack’s foresight, he’s just a very clever man who has trust issues. (tackled his dad in a flashback out of pure paranoia) and Dan Faraday is a terrible liar. Not that much of a puzzle.
