Many of the theories that I have come up with are based on connecting the dots between the real world and the things going on in the show. I have read many things based on the effects in lost that have taken place in the real world in an attempt to predict where the show is going. Like I said, some of the theories that I have might have already been stated or are so obvious to other that they did not feel the need to say them but here it goes.
First I believe that Widmore sponsered the race in an effort to locate the island. Since we know that Ben and Widmore are rivals we can estimate that they are also equals. Otherwise one of them would have already won their “game”. If Ben is good at manipulating other, Widmore must be as well. He knew that someone would be on a path to run into the island. He purchased the “Black Rocks” log so that he could send Desmond on that path to run into the island. He figured it would be easier to find Desmond after he found the island rather then just the island. I still wonder however, why the door to the hatch that Locke opened had the word Quarantine. Maybe Ben knew that he had been sent from Widmore so he had that painted on the door to keep Desmond in the hatch. Next theory has to do with experiements on the island. The unified plan theory, seems to me, to have alot to do with the island itself. Nickola Tesla is said to have proposed a working theory but never proved it. For those of us who have seen the movei “The Presige” will recognize the name Tesla and his machine. I believe that a simiular things is happening on the island. Like the Drahma video with the multiple rabbits and not being aloud to see each other, also it explains why the rabbit can run the maze in the Desmond flashback with Daniel. It is not the same rabbit, but it has the same memories. The unified plan theory says that if you can control to spinning metal objects and their magnetic fields on the same axis then time will not exisit between the two objects. I think that was what was going on in the hatch, they were keeping objects spining. It also says that with enough energy and a strong enough magnetic field you can manipulate gravity and bend light around an object, making it invisable. That is why the lostees can not see the other island from their own island. The Philadelphia Experiment is a event where people believe that the navy hid a ship from plan view and acutally sent it to another location insantly. I will let you read more about the project online if you would like but I will point out that one of the survivers who claims to have been aboud the ship that was teleported is named Jacob D. Murray, possible having to do withe the Jacob in the cabin. Lastly I don’t know if it means anything but the Jacob/Ben/Locke/Hurley thing is begining to sound very religous, The “Hear no Evil, See no Evil and Speak no Evil” seems to fit the reason why they need both Locke and Hurley to communicate with Jacob. Please respond to any or all of these and let me know what you think. Also has anyone else noticed the reflection of the city in the water below the island on the commerical where it says the word “LOST”….just wondering

The hatch door said quarantine because part of the psychological experiment that the Dharma Initiative was running required that the participants be afraid to go outside and believe that staying in the hatch was necessary to survival.
um…it was a rat with Des and Farady, not a rabbit.
i think that these are good theories. the only thing that i see wrong with it is the time thing. We obviously know that time has passed in the real world and on the island because in the absence of time people cannot die, because without time there is no age. also we know that there is time becuase people in the real world knew that the plane had crashed because there is a big stir about the ocanic 6
