Why would Ben yell out to Keamy that Alex wasn’t his daughter, then talk about the rule change?
Was he just trying to get Keamy NOT to use Alex as bait? and if so, woldn’t that be a reason to actually kill her, if she’s not his daughter, but just a resident? Keamy killing her could very well have happened because Ben said that, although we know it would have probably happened regardless. I just don’t get the logic behind his telling Keamy that. and then being surprised that it actually happened. Any thoughts?

When Ben said that, he already used up all the good ideas to solve the situation, and when failed started his hysterical mumblings about Alex not being his daughter as a final, worthless try to save her.. that’s all. No hidden meaning whatsoever.
Ben says to Widmore that he changed the rules when he killed Alex. What we don’t know is what rule was changed. If the rule was you can’t kill members of the others family then your yeah it would put Alex at risk. I doubt that its that simple. Ben IMO thought that this would save Alex and he badly misjudged the situation.
i dont think that ben was trying to save alex. he was trying to save himself. i do think that he loved alex, but he is not selfless enough to give himself up for someone else’s life. maybe he was partially saying she wasn’t his daughter to help himself emotionally.
there are no rules.
ben miscalculated keamy and his irrational reaction is to blame someone else for breaking the “rules”
Ben would never miscalculate anything, IMO. He had a file on Keamy. He knew Keamy was a mercenary, therefore already knew his capabilities. Ben tossed the dice, he knew he would win either way.
I believe Ben wanted the rules to be changed, and sacrificed Alex in order to change them. He then uses this ruse in order to try and convince Widmore that it was Widmore who changed the rules, in order to further his quest to kill Penny.
Ben knows Penny is searching for “the island”, and knows she will lead her father straight to it.
WAD UP MB2U, first time in a long time bro.
Maybe we have the rules wrong. Furthermore, Keamy was probably pissed that if Ben was right Alex lied to him—meaning his plan for getting Ben out of the house was dead in the water. Furthermore, for all we know, Ben drew the wrong map for Danielle, Carl, and Alex, and delivered her to Keamy and Co, knowing how it would play out.
Maybe the rule was not to kill innocent children, so Ben wanted it to seem like he’d just been using her and she wasn’t actually valuable in all these shananagins, hoping that would keep her alive. Granted, Carl was killed, which puts a hole in things, but just a thought.
