Part three of the ultimate lost theory.”

— TheHolyStickman

Hello to all Losties out there. Im back with my long overdue third installment of a complete Lost theory. There are six theories all pushed into one to save space on the boards. These theories are, Ben’s history, Jacob, The age thing, The whispers, The nature of the island and the Smoke monster. Thanks for clicking on my theory. Enjoy!

A brief outline of Ben’s history

I know this isn’t the most exciting topic to start my long overdue third part of my lost theory. But, Ben is a very interesting character and probably a very important and connected character. Ben is born; maybe he had a famous grandfather or some relation that earned a lot of money. Ben’s dad Rodger lives off his Dad’s money and his wife’s Emily (I think). Rodger has a fight with his Dad and he stops supporting him money wise. Ben’s mother dies when Ben is born. Leaving Rodger unemployed with a dead wife a weak baby (due to premature birth) who needs a lot of care. Oh dear. Suddenly Horrace Goodspeed (Once again I think) and his wife appear out of nowhere and years later offer Rodger a job at dharma. This is no coincidence Horace or someone else related to DHARMA has been studying Ben for the few years since he was born. They recognise him as special and must bring him and any others like that to the island. Ben reaches the island, he is kept quiet and safe until he is old enough to use his ability. Ben meets Annie they meet both shy and quiet. They become friends and possible date for a while. Annie’s father killed in an experiment/accident/something DHARMA related. Annie leaves forever leaving Ben with a furious hatred for dharma. He rebels against them, not seriously but refuses to work and doesn’t leave the house. Notice something, sounds a lot like Alex doesn’t it. Then he sees his mother and Richard. He tells Ben to stop rebelling and just lay low until the day that we need you. Several years pass, Bens brief rebelling is forgotten and then they gas the dharma. The others recognise Ben as special and bring him before Jacob. Up until that point no-one had been able to understand him and the others had to rely on skilled others to read the messages that Jacob sends. Ben gains respect as he can speak to Jacob. He is patient and over time climbs higher in the ranks of the others. He slightly changes messages from Jacob. Through his manipulative skills Ben manages to become second in command and waits patiently. Eventually the leader dies through natural causes. And Ben takes over. Ben starts to dilute the original hostiles with knuckle heads like Danny and all the rest of them. With Ben now completely in charge of the others he suggests they move into the DHARMA houses. For the next few years Ben slowly takes decisions by himself. Starts to ignore Jacob, feels he doesn’t need him. Jacob threatens Ben to stop making decisions himself. Ben doesn’t listen to the warnings. Jacob responds by stopping healing Ben’s cancer, as a last desperate attempt. But suddenly a spinal surgeon falls out of the sky and heals Ben’s cancer. This is why Jacob tells Locke to help him. Since Jacob can’t do anything anymore Locke must fight Ben, Locke must take over Jacob’s position, Locke must accept his fate.

Jacob

Here’s a quick stab at Jacob and his identity. Jacob is the living embodiment of the spirit of the island. Obviously as an island he likes nature and living things and would have a dislike to new technology. I mean the island is pretty old so all this new technology is just a blip in his long life. Jacob is not Jack, he is not Locke, he is not Jacks grandfather, he is not Bens dad and (my fav) He is not Vincent. Jacob is someone new who we have never met and has no relation to anyone we have ever met. As a spirit and not a real person Jacob will not be able to move. He used Ben to talk to the people who he thought were good people. My guess is that Jacob spoke to the original inhabitants of the island and he liked them and he served as a leader. As time went on people found the island and Jacob welcomed them in and let them mingle in with the original inhabitants. Jacob kept illness at bay and occasionally gave it for punishment, such as Ben’s cancer. He is not a forgiving man. So the crew from the black rock came and again mingled in with the original inhabitants. Then DHARMA came they didn’t want to know the hostiles they built houses and used machinery they even dug pits into the island or hatches. As I’ve said before Ben takes over and changes the others into something Jacob doesn’t want them to be. Jacob responds by making all the women who have been in direct contact with Ben not able to have babies. Therefore the others will die out. Ben calls in Juliet and she gets closer and closer to the answer. Jacob grows more desperate. Therefore he calls Locke to help him.

Richard Alpert and age

Obviously now you should know that something is wrong with the way Richard Alpert ages. Although he looks different in Bens flashback it’ just the directors way of throwing you a bit. And I’m willing to bet that he’s only physically a few years older now. I think that it matters what bearing you come in on. So if you come in on the bearing that the losties came in on. Then there will be a small change in time but not enough to notice. On the sub they probably go in on the exact bearing that will make no time difference. This is why Daniel said to go out on the same bearing that he came out on in an attempt to change the time back. With Richard it’s the same, except he came in on a bearing that made time slow down a lot. I believe he came in on the black rock. I have seen a spoiler, (not on purpose) that backs up just how old he is. I think that a lot of the people that came in on the black rock have been killed but some of them just blended in with the rest of the original hostiles.

Alteratively I think that all the people on the island who live unnaturally long lives are al being kept alive for the islands purposes Richard is important he needed to live to see Juliet and the losties so the island let him live that long. Who knows maybe even some of the others were around when the four toed statue was made.

Whispers

Right, now I’m going to tackle the whispers (oh I am being brave this time aren’t it). Normally I wouldn’t have tied this as we’ve been given little to none information on them, except for some incoherent ramblings found by some truly dedicated lost fans with some audio equipment. But, I’ve looked on Lostpedia at the mysteries section and looked at the whispers for fun and I saw that in the scene where Shannon dies there are a number of whispers three at the same time and played backwards so they were hard to untangle. But one voice says that Dying sucks. This should ring a bell and for some of you more dedicated losties you’ll know that Boone said this in a flashback in one of Shannon’s episodes. Now I haven’t quite pieced this all together yet but I think that this is pretty strong evidence of the nature of the whispers. (I’m gonna apologise in advance if this theory has been debunked by the producers or already posted). Also I have seen that there’s a German voice in the whispers. There was a German guy in the tailies camp that was killed. When something supernatural happens on the island there are brief moments when the dead can try and communicate with the living world. Picture a football fan (or soccer for you Americans) watching the game and yelling at the TV because he can see the whole field and has a better view of the game. This is basically what the whispers are trying to do they are watching the game and can see clearly what to do. But since there have been a lot of dead people on the island they all try to talk and things get overlapped and confused. If this theory is correct then you could use the whispers to pinpoint when something supernatural is happening. Such as when Harper, Juliet’s therapist appears in the other woman you can hear the whispers. This could mean that Harper was a vision from the monster thing, like Walt. Or that maybe she can move unnaturally fast. That would explain why she disappeared so suddenly.

Locke’s walking

I’m surprised (as always) that this theory hasn’t been touched on. Locke wasn’t able to walk before the island and then the crash, and now he can. Weird, no. If you’ve read my theory above this is basically the same. Locke needs to walk. If Locke couldn’t walk he wouldn’t have hunted they wouldn’t have found food. They wouldn’t have found the hatch. They wouldn’t have met Desmond. And so on. The island needs a fully able Locke just like it needs a youthful Richard Alpert. Another example of the islands interference is when Boone has to climb up to the plane. The island can do without Boone. But it needs Locke. In fact it wanted Boone to die; the island sent Locke to the plane only to force Boone up there. I think this was to test Locke’s devotion to the island. But it begins to falter as he gets to the hatch and finds that all he does is his old job. Press buttons in an isolated space. This is not what the island intended. It was for Locke to meet Desmond and not for him to press the button. Anyway I’m rambling on. This is basically about the islands slight interference in things. The island originally tried to turn Jack with visions of his Father, but Jack and Locke were destined to be rivals. My point here is although Ben is the only visible manipulating-person-thingy the island is a much better and stealthy one.

The Smoke monster

Right here’s an attempt at probably the most mysterious element of lost. My last theory about this was slashed brutally into the minuses and for good reasons. It was really, really bad. So I think the monster was made by Jacob/Island not by dharma/Man. Jacob uses it to summon people such as when he tried to get Locke in the season finale. But originally it was supposed to be a police system for the island. (But could be used in battle because of its brute strength). When the bright light flashes the monster scans you. This is what Locke saw when he first saw the monster it scanned him and Jacob saw that he had a special connection with the island. So next time the monster saw him he tried to take Locke to him to Jacob. The DHARMA studied the nature of the monster and tried to change it into something like a police system. A prototype for the real world. Something that would see someone scan him/her and then judge them on the spot. The DHARMA did manage to find out secrets of the monster. They built a sonar fence to stop it getting in. They were on the verge of finding out how to change it. For this reason and for countless more, Jacob ordered the purge of all dharma. Even if they had to use modern equipment. This is also what happened to Eko the monster saw his past and saw that he was going to go back to those way so easily if tempted. So it decided that he was better off dead. But because of its power and its complete tolerance of anything it does. It would (if my theory is correct) be a very dangerous move to use in a war against the freiter. But after watching the episode The shape of things to come I notice that Ben used the monster to kill the five mercenaries, I think that although it was a risky move it was still classically calculated and worked out by Ben. As Widmore chose Five of his most ruthless men as mercenaries to capture Ben, these were the five targets of smokey, because they had awful pasts and were just ruthless killers. As I’ve seen the first episode after the break now, I might as well try to speculate as to what control Ben has over the monster. As Ben is special he has been passed on the knowledge, by Jacob, of how to control he smoke monster. He lets it be, policing the island but has a way of calling it when he needs it. Jacob has complete control over the monster, but Ben doesn’t as he is special but he’s not the spirit of the island. My guess is that Jacob is the physical form of the island, The smoke monster is the will and that the invisible force sometimes called fate, such as when Locke began to walk and when Jack saw his Dad, is the mind of the island.

So there I’m finished. I spent ages on this so please don’t just minus it without leaving a comment. It might be a load of crap but please tell me what you think of it.

P.S. A big sorry to Angelo Comet as I saw he did a five or six part theory on Alex and then she died. I guess the writers didn’t like her story.

    you claim

Annie’s father who I’m going to call Digby or some reason is killed in an experiment/accident/something DHARMA related. Annie leaves forever leaving Ben with a furious hatred for dharma. He rebels against them, not seriously but refuses to work and doesn’t leave the house

This sounds like an imaginitive theory rather than anythibg based on the actual show!

Can you please give some evidence from the show Lost to support your theory. As i am at a loss to see where it is coming from.

If the smoke monster can create people then why not create a fully abled person, why does it need a Locke that it has to fix?

I kinda liked the overall theory, but the details were a little sketchy stickman. That said I’m not gonna vote yet. I need to think it all over for a while.
