iThe smoke monster lives in underground pipes beneath the island. The pipes can be opened or closed through switches behind bens bookcase. It controls all the pipes on the island.
On shape of things to come Ben opened up a pipe allowing the monster to go underneath the fence thing. Ussually it is kept closed and allowed to roam free and underground outside the fence. When locke got pulled by the monster you can see the hole which was the pipe. On the blast door map you see cerberus written in certain locations. This is where the pipes come out of the ground on to land. The lost creaters said cerberus is another name for the monster. The monster can turn itself to whatever youre scard of. Jacks dad, ekos brother, dave, jacob. and his cabin .It is probalbly used to scare people on purpose such as the people in the dharma stations.

maybe you’ve been hittin’ Wesley Pipes too hard bro.
yep
yeah, the smoke goes in this end of the pipe, and you can block this hole on the back, or let it go once in a while, and the smoke bubbles all around in there before it comes out this other end…
sorry, another flashback to college days
abstract that is the White Smoke monster, perhaps a cousin of the black smoke one!
Stitch, I need a constant brotha
On the map, is there a C.V. near where the Barracks would be? I know it isn’t drawn to scale, but someone should probably check. I like this theory. Points!
Boondox - Good theory. This explains Ben’s apparent ‘control’ over the Black Smoke without him actually having any real control. Ben would require some further understanding though: How did he know the Black Smoke would only go for Keamy and his men?
it probably goes after the first thing it sences. But your rite he probably knows way more about it than he says. here a link to a closeup of the blast map http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Image:BlastDoorMapOverlay.jpg
i dont think the map was finished so he never got all the pipe locations, and dharma stations
