Let us naem the stuff

1) Ben wakes up shaking in the middle fo the Sahara Desert, wearing Edgar Hallowax’s Dharma parka. He seems disoriented at first, vomits a little, and then gets his bearings. He’s got a nasty slash wound on one arm - how’d he get that? He also turns out to be fairly adept with a hand-held collapsable police baton. Why the parka? Was he expecting to land in the Arctic (or Antarctic) instead? Any magnetic anomaly in a war?

2) Ben apparently is able to summon Smokey to do his bidding. How’d he do that?

3) Ben says that Widmore “changed the rules” when he had Alex murdered. Widmore says it was Ben’s fault. Ben retorts that now Penny is fair game. Is this rich man’s tit-for-tat taken to a logical extreme, or what? Why’d they do that?

4) More time warping - the freighter doc is still alive on the boat even after his lifeless body has washed up on the beach. Must have been longer than 30 minutes. How’d he do that?

5) Ben says he used Desmond’s sailboat to get off the Island. But his strange landing - like he fell from the sky - in the Sahara tends to cast doubt on that claim.

6) More nonsense about Jacob. This part is wearing a bit thin. We need something more substantial out of the dude to believe that he’s of any real importance to the Island. And lok at me, talking as is the Island is an entity in itself….

7) Apparently neither Widmore or Ben can find the Island now - they are both “in the hunt”. No doubt Ben left Locke in control during his absence. Oh, and Widmore claims he’s owned the Island for a very long time. Did he own it when Dharma camped out there, too? Did he get Ben to murder the Dharma people when they refused to leave? Sort of like an eviction with prejudice?

Is it just me, or does this episode sort of remind anyone of a movie of a few years back, when the very wealthy pay big bucks to be stalked by killers - the ultimate thrill - turning the tables on one’s adversaries, etc?

    1) I think his disorientation was due to a time/space travel that took place when he ran into the weird closet room. As for the parka…perhaps he expected to land in the Arctic or maybe he did land somewhere else first and thats how he got his arm wounded.

    2) Im not sure either way on wether or not he summoned it but he def. knew it was gonna show up and lay waste to those freighties except for Keamey.

    3) The changing of the rules thing stuck me as soooooo odd. Def. something to be figured out. Clearly the rules are in reference to killing family members something to that effect since he wasn’t whining about the rules when some of the remaining others got shot one after another like they were in the movie Commando. (hilarious)

4)The Doc discrepancy is def. an interesting one. It speaks to my post about the rocket and the perspective of time on/off island.

thats it for now….good post, hit all the good points

i posted this before do you think ben went back in time an killed the guys shooting at him an this is why smokey killed them

I think the smoke monster kills those that are either completed their work on the island OR those that are essentially intruders. Seth Norris and the freighter gun wieldind folk were intruders.

Mr Eko had finished his work, he restored Locke’s faith. So that monster killed him.

If Ben went back in time and killed the guys shooting at him then surely they would be dead and not not shooting at him?

    1) Ben crossed the border from Syria (does not make sense, since Tunisia and Syria do not have common border) 2) I do not care. It’s a gimmick 3) I do not care. It’s a gimmick 4) I do not care. It’s a gimmick 5) see 1) 6) agrreed 7) Ben is hunting for Penny, not for the island.

Nice work Veefre. A lot of good points that have me wondering as well. I think that was probably the best episode ever to date (to me anyway), less soap opera, more action, Smokey kicking butt.

I noticed Smokey was much larger and louder than anything we’ve ever seen or heard in the past. So does that mean we’ve previously only seen Smokey pieces that detatch from the main body, but last night we saw the full Smokey? Unless, Smokey is a mama? (Kidding….or…? )

He mentioned crossing the Syrian border when he was in Iraq, not Tunisia.

IF I was going through some time travel portal, I sure as heck would want to know where I would be going! Heading for the Artic and hitting the desert is just not right. Perhaps he came from the Artic to the desert?

The morse code exchange could be code between the freighter people. And why won’t the writers give any lines to Charlotte? She needs to speak more because Farrady is getting down right annoying!

1.Ben wakes up shaking in the desert…..I think he was shivering..also I watched the scene a few times and he seems to exhale cold air that you can see(like fog) but I can’t get a screencap that actually shows it :(

Were polar bears used experimentally in the Orchid as they could withstand the extreme cold that might be part of the …teleportation?

I loved this episode! The scene where Sayid offers to work for Ben and Ben walks away with a creepy smile on his face threw me off. I thought he was being sincere with Sayid.

One thing about Ben. I don’t think he is ever really sincere. Even about Alex. He’s out to revenge her death, not because it was so wrong, but because it made HIM feel bad.

Nice catch wtfsignmeup. Not only do you see Ben exhale vapor at the beging of the episode but you can almost see some snow on his shoes. Also, when Ben checks into the hotel before meeting up with Sayid, he asks the clerk what date it was, specificaly what year. Ben didnt know what time he was in.

  11. ChuckG Apr 25, 2008 8:55 a.m. Comment: 11

Actually, Ben thought he knew what time he was in, but he wasn’t sure — if I recall correctly, he offered that it was 2005 and waited for confirmation.

The fact that the polar bear and ben both ended up in the Tunisian desert cannot be a coincidence. There did not appear to be a reason for Ben to be in Tunisia specifically — are there portals in only certain places? Some sort of tear in the space-time continuum (whatever that means)?

    I agree - “lotsa” stuff!

    Additionally:

    1) Jack appears to be sick (taking antibiotics and clutching his side - looks like appendicitis to me!) — island no likey Jack anymore?

    2) Ben waking up in the desert - aside from the vomiting, didn’t that look eerily like Jack waking up in the jungle in the pilot? Hmmm…

Fun show! I think Ben and I had the same expression on our faces when Alex was shot…perhaps that means I need to get out more?? ;0)

TMTOMH, great point about the similarity of Ben waking up in the desert and Jack waking up in the Pilot.ben

    7) I’m pretty sure Ben still knows where the island is and how to get back. Ben i s hunting Penny while Widmore is hunting the island.

The object to the side of Jack in the pic sure looks like Ben’s magic stick that he used to beat those Tunisian horse riders.

Could Jack be the new Ben, working for someone else?

    What I am wondering is….

What has been happening in the meantime, as he is now there in october of 2005, and last we know its late december of 2004…Thats 10 months of god knows what…

WTF the black object by Jack’s head looks like a collapsable police baton, or a flashlight.

    Great theory.
