Yeah, I agree that the island does seem to keep people alive until they’ve served a purpose.
Maybe this has something to do with course correction, until something has been ‘put write’ they are unable to be killed.
It makes you wonder whether it’s to do with the Valenzetti Equation - could it be that DHARMA/Hanso actually managed to effect events within the outside world - fate is now trying to amend this change and bring things back to how they ‘should’ have been.
I think the extras in the show are really just to make it more realistic, they don’s have a ‘purpose’ as such, only some of the Losties do - the Losties whose stories are interconnect - the people who due to there subtle connections, paths have been changed. But it would be too obvious if it was only them that survived the crash.
Paulo and Nikki aren’t really relevant to the wider picture and their centric episode was really just a ‘filler’, much like that one when Sawyer spends all day looking for frog in the jungle - fascinating.
Rose and Bernard I’m not sure - Rose however is the only one in the show who expresses a clear faith, not in a ‘spiritual’ kind of sense like Locke but a belief in a Christian God - this could, maybe, be of some importance.
+1 for bringing it up.
Uh yeah, we kinda knew that like forever ago.
