Is Jack experiencing similar mind-shifts as Des ? Jack in the future is desparate to get back on the island but can’t. Could he use Faraday’s purple ray gun to mind-shift himself back to events we have already witnessed ?
Times when he may have have shifted: During the crash scene: - he definitely seemed to be experiencing déjà vu during the pilot episode. When he Kate and Charlie are chased by Smokie and Jack goes back for Charlie - he seemed unreasonably happy to go off with smokey and unphased by the experience when he got back. Adam and Eve: He seemed to me to knowingly go straight for the black and white stones and pocketed them without anybody else noticing. When he was reviving Charlie after Ethan’s attack. Did he shift in when he had given up and so tried again to save him? When he tried to shoot Locke - this appeared to be very out of character for him at the time, a shift back from the future may explain it. Future Jack may have known that the gun would not fire. Could an early first shift be when he was confused at the hospital and didn’t know that his dad was dead again when he came back ?
I’m sure there are others.
Mind-shifts could provide explanations for some of these events. Maybe fate is telling him that it is essential that he get back to the island to tell himself things in the past. It happened in the past so he must do so in the future to avoid a paradox. For example. He gets the black and white stones because future Jack went back and told him to (for whatever reason). In the future he absolutely must go back or there will be a paradox.
No wonder he’s so desperate to get back. The integrity of the timeline is at stake.

I don’t really think this is going to be the case, but you cite good examples of where this could happen. And I also do like the notion - that we’ll eventually be treated to a series of scenes where we see Jack flashing back and effecting changes. It would make for a great sequence… +1
I agree with AC, I normally don’t buy these type of “Jack’s been here before” theories, but this one was written well, so I gotta rate it +1. Good job.
I think you mind-shifted into my brain! I was rewatching the Pilot Episode, this time considering the recently-discussed theory that this was not Jack’s first time on the island. And I am really starting to believe that this is the case. Someone on LT had mentioned how right after he regained conciousness, he checks his pocket for the extra bottle of vodka that he will need to clean his wound and for Kate’s hands. Then, he runs straight to the crash (even though he is deep in an unmarked jungle) and starts systematically attending to those in need. Systematically being a key word. He seems to know exactly what and where his help is needed. And he goes straight to the sewing kit…no frantic searching. I am starting to think he has lived this over and over and has gotten it down to almost a science. Like in Groundhog’s Day.
Maybe at some point in the future (after his bearded phase) he runs in to Faraday, who can then help him get back (if in mind only).
+10!
I certainly won’t discount it, because there is no reason to. It seems like he would act differently if he flashed in from the future however.
+1 for the theory although I’m undecided. I do think it would be cool, though.
I agree completely and have thought this from the beginning….I even have to wonder if everyone’s flashbacks are actually their conscious traveling back to that moment…that would mean everyone has what Desmond has. I have a theory in process but it is hard to explain it just yet. +1 from me!
