LOST-Theories.com

No matter what theory you read or try to create, all of them begin by making a large assumption and then backing the rest of it up with selected details from the rest of the story.

But there are simply too many questions to be resolved for anybody to make an intelligent guess. Are all of these characters lives really signficant, and controlled by destiny? And if they are destined, am I to assume they are being controlled by Jacob, The Island, Time, or something else? Should I assume that the flash forwards are really taking place, or just possible events based on the direction of current choices? Is Locke really special, is Ben not still in control, is Juliet really on the survivors side? Is Jacob real, a current character out of time, or a referenced character such as one from the Black Rock who still exists on the island? Does Desmond control significant events through his power of time? Does Arron have a destiny with the Island? Is the monster Jacob, the Island, both or none? Was the Dharma initiative an inocent inhabitant of the island, or did they create it’s properties? Is the Island real, a version of hell, or even a dream? Is the point of all of this the saving of the world? Are the hostiles really the original inhabitants? Is Ben secretly friendly with those on the rescue boat?

There are just too many questions like these, none of which can be answered definatively, but all of which must be answered if you’re going to create a comprehensive theory of the island. And I’m not saying that portions of these theories are in correct. In trying to create my own however, I realized that to create one, you just have to make too many assumptions.

The point is that it’s simply impossible to accurately determine what’s happening on the island, and any attempt to do so, no matter how illuminating it may seem, is simply a complex series of guesses. For all of the questions above, and many others like them, there is just no way that anybody can suggest an inrefutable answer.

I agree, will the writters be able to tie up all loose ends? The polar bears were not really answered until season 3 and then I not sure if we know why they had them there. (Correct me if im wrong).

They’ll tie up all the major loose ends and leave it up to us to tie all the smaller ones.

The question of “where did the polar bears come from?” was answered, but now we have one in Tunisia, which wasn’t fully explained in the show yet.

You’re right, not much can be determined with any authority right now, it’s all pretty much guesswork. But people have fun speculating, predicting, etc., and there’s a lot to be said for educated guesses. It’s fun to see someones speculation come true every sdo often.

    I think you’re right, but it’s irrefutable.

yeah that’s what I’m saying. It is fun to guess, don’t get me wrong, but what I’m not looking forward to is this.

Inevitably people are going to convince themselves that their idea is correct, and when it turns out that most of these theories are wrong, then people are going to get upset because they were sure that it couldn’t have gone any other way, and then you’ll hear about how crappy the final season was.

I’m just saying, it happens with any major movie or show, see the last episode of Seinfeld or Matrix: Revolutions. People just get these ideas and are dissapointed when they don’t come true, so all I’m saying is to keep you emotions in check and just enjoy whatever is to come regardless. Feel free to guess, but don’t get caught up in, otherwise you’ll just dissapoint yourself later. Does that make sense?

It does make sense, however, I don’t believe any of us are marching up and down the site trying to convince each other that we know exactly what is going on or how the show is going to end.

I don’t know why you feel the need to preach “open-mindedness” on what episodes we have yet to see or the ending of the show, because…ummm- we already practice that. In order to have kept up with LOST, you couldn’t give anything less.

We come here for the pleasure of hearing other people out on ideas, the joy of learning new things we may have missed…and yes, speculate on how it may end. I think that most of us true LOST fans are going to love how the show comes to a close…but until then- I enjoy talking with my fellow fans- no matter how ridiculous and completely non plausible the ideas seem to be.
