Rimland_Thesis just posted something that got me thinking…..
Made some edits due to great replies…
We know Smokey can physically tear u apart on the island, but perhaps he can still screw with you if your close enough.
What if Smokey kills/tries to kill you if your not willing to fulfill the destiny the island desires.
First it tries to screw with your brain, making you DWELL on your past, then “if your on the island” it can take forms, or just plain kill you.
But if it cant get to you physically, like the boat, it “messes” with your brain, eventually making you kill yourself”
The chain lady, hell maybe thats why charlie shut the door and drowned. He was forced to, and didnt know why.
Maybe smokey wants them dead to “use” there bodied, so to speak.

Never crossed my mind……….however, I will assume, if Smokey can’t float over the Sonic Fence, then perhaps its “tied” to the ground, and therefore, can’t get to the boat, which, as we know, floats on H2O!!
Therefore, perhaps, re-evaluating the theories that postulate what the”possible chemical composition” of Smokey could be, that is, if it’s made of the Island itself, would be a good place to start.
So, I do believe, this idea has been debunked.

Smokey, based on the Sonic Fence scene with Kate & Juliette, is part of the Island?
now i’m not 100% sure that this was a fact or if this was a theory on lostpedia, but i’ve read somewhere that cerberus is “chained” to an underground track, thus can’t go over water. don’t take my word on that though, it really could’ve been another theory.

I don’t think anyone knows whether smokey can leave the island, and I really don’t necessarily agree that he killed chain lady, suicide just doesn’t seem like smokies style, but that’s no reason for a minus 1. +1 for at least making me think this morning.
Still I wonder what exactly was the Libby that spoke to Michael on the freighter. What was the Charlie that spoke to Hurley at the mental institution. Does the ‘monster’ have the ability to be taken somewhere???
