Here on the Black Rock crew list we find a Daniel Farraday & a Miles Strom (not Straume): http://www.onentofl.com/magnushanso.html
Someone (I can’t find those theories now) had previously (before Season 4) noticed the names of Hanso, Widmore, Richard Alpert & Jacob Deyer. We also have three members of the crew called Thomas, maybe we know one of them as Tom Friendly.
I don’t have a single theory to explain Daniel and Miles’ names on the list. Maybe at some point in the future a time machine meltdown scenario could occur and send those two back. Then they try to return to the island on the Black Rock. Seems a little convoluted though, and they would need old-fashioned sailing skills to get the job.
Possibly Miles “80% of the people on this boat are lying” chose a pseudonym himself. If he had had contact with one of the dead Black Rock crew, using his psychic ability he could learn much about the comings and goings on the island in the past and find a way to infiltrate Widmore’s organisation. Perhaps Widmore hired him to do this. Or Miles could have the same apparent immortality/longevity like Richard Alpert and work for Ben/the Others/the Hostiles etc.
As several other people have suggested, I think Ben probably has someone other than Michael installed on the freighter working for him. Ben knew about Widmore’s operations from a long time before and has strong tentacles onto the outside world. He seems too thorough to pin all his plans on a loose cannon like Michael. I reckon he put Michael on the freighter as a fall guy for his real undercover person. Miles makes sense - he threatens Daniel for giving away too much information, but then he reveals their mission to find Ben….

Where did that web site come from? None of those names have been confirmed except for the captain. This is all just guess work.
The website does seem a little suspect. It also seems unlikely that Miles Straume would have been born in England in the mid-1800’s as he appears to be of Asian origin; it’s not impossible, just unlikely. That is also ignoring the need for some sort of longevity of life. If Miles Straume was a pseudonym I don’t think it would be so important that Daniel not tell the Losties his last name.
Although the possibility of Richard being on the ship when it crashed/beached is somewhat likely, Farraday and Strom being on the ship is not. And like WhatTheFoucault said, Where did that website come from? I question the authenticity.
Well I myself have questioned it’s authenticity, but I found a link to it in this site several months ago, before the characters Miles and Daniel had appeared.

The date shows that whoever made the crew website did so long before the viewing public knew the names of the new characters in Series 4.
Well, it is interesting that the site existed before we were introduced to the characters, although I’m sure their names were out there somewhere. I appreciate the link even if I am skeptical of the information found there!
I can’t consider this canon; it’s intriguing, sure, but also looks suspectly like the work of a creative Lost fanatic.
I can’t find any evidence in support of this on lostpedia so i’m gonna call fake too.
Telly addict for sure. I don’t think anyone officially associated with Lost would spell Miles’s name wrong, and isn’t ‘Farraday’ spelt with one ‘R’?
Also note the names ‘Linderman’ and ‘Adam Monroe’ - both characters in Heroes.
ok, so the website might be a fake, but the ships log that charles widmore bought, was written by the first mate, according to that site, his ancestor was the first mate. explains why charles wants the ships log, and possibly how the log got into the hands of the hanso family (the captain) may have managed to get off the island and land in madagascar (where it was found with pirates).
