Are all the birds just references to Flight 815 or is there deeper significance?

This is an observation, not a full-blown theory, but someone may have further ideas to expand on this.
There is a repetitive motif about birds and wings. Yes I know Lost revolves around a plane crash so wings and flight are an obvious image to fixate on but do birds have another significance here?
In the pilot, the middle section of the plane on the beach looks like a dead bird. Its broken wheel in the air looks more like a bird’s clawed foot and obviously the plane wing looks like a bird’s wing. Then in the same part 1 Kate picks up the pilots badge which is upside-down in a puddle- it is a pair of wings and kind of mirrors the upside-down plane on the beach.
Then later we have Hurley’s bird, Walt’s bird, Claire’s birds, the Swan etc. People have mentioned the butterfly effect- I wonder if all these birds, wings, cause and effect events are there to make us question how much is down to fate- (as Charlie writes on his hand)- a larger plan- and how much down to small random events having a knock-on effect. Kind of back to faith and science again. But I also have a feeling there is a greater significance to do with birds we are missing.
Any ideas?

I agree with you here that birds have a big link to the story.Maybe the birds are a metaphor
it’s possible that walt attracted birds to him while in the air and one of them was sucked into the engine.
I have been thinking the same thing!!! but was afraid to post
Something to the birds I think, thought not sure what that would be. Just random thoughts.. .birds can fly away (escape), not bound to the ground or the sea, can navigate migrations on instinct…. not much input there I’m afraid.
So, Walt attracted a flock of birds into the planes engine? I can buy that it’s possible considering his presumed supernatural abilities.
But then the partially failing engine causes the plane to malfunction, break into three pieces which land on the island, and the one remaining working engine survives long enough and with enough fuel in the fuel lines to suck a human being into it and explode?
All of this coincedently happens when the Swan Station’s electromagnetic field builds to uncontrolled levels because Desmond returns late from his confrontation with Kelvin?
I guess it’s as possible as anything.
Never be afraid to post… Even the most unlikely of theories can inspire or help prove other theories. Just do your research, present as many known facts and sources as possible and have a thick skin for internet abuse. You’ll be fine. :)
Don’t birds migrate according to Earth’s magnetic fields? North and South….
