this is my theory about ben, and his past. he is important to the history of the island.
When juliet is seeing the shrink, the docter person says that juliet looks just like her. so thats why ben keeps juliet on island. juliet looks like someone that ben cared for. the only people that could, so far, be like juliet, that ben knows, is 1) his mother, or 2) the girl he knew when he was a boy, the one that gave him a birthday present.
if ben got her pregnant, and thus she got killed from it, then that would explain why he is so focussed on fixing the islands birth problem. but that is not the most important thing to figure out about the island, as the one other seid to locke, when locke could not kill his father. the one other told locke that the others were on the island for more important reasons.
the birth problem is not there main mission, the island is more then that, and maybe someday we all will get to know just what this crazy show is about, but I’m just happy lost is still going and can’t wait till the 24th…….

yeah i think a couple of poeple have posted this more than once.

I think you just stated the obvious. In the enhance version the other woman, When Harper says to Juliet “you look just like her” the caption states that she looks like her boyhood friend, Annie. The purpose of the others is yet to be revealed, the dying pregnant mothers is a side effect not the main objective. As for Annie, we don’t know what happened to her. You could be right , she might have been one of the dying mothers. The other loose end is why did Ben “adopt” Alex and who was the “adopting mother” was that Annie or was he alone 17 years ago.
