  3. Ben Apr 10, 2008 2:16 p.m. Comment: 3

Can anyone think of a lower quality human being on the show than Michael, err Kevin? One of the things that I love about the show is the complexity of each character. Most have both great and horrible qualities at the same time. Michael is the only one I can think of that just plain sucks. No reedeming qualities at all, in my opinion. Anyone agree / disagreee with my opinion of Michael? I’m curious.

  4. snakeskinboots Apr 10, 2008 2:43 p.m. Comment: 4

i kind of agree he seems to have been very selfish but i think if i were in the same situation as he was i would do anything to save my son. I kind of think he intended to try and save his friends after he escaped but could not get back to the island. Maybe thats me been naive. I think Michaels character was used to show us what becomes of someone who leaves the island before their time has come. I think that is why Ben says he was not happy about the deal that was done with Michael because he knew his work was not done yet. But yeah he does appear to suck at the moment time will tell if he manages to redeem himself i believe he will die trying to save the losties or his son at some point and the “POWERS THAT BE” cover up the truth making it look like a suicide, hence the obit and he is in the coffin

  5. Ben Apr 10, 2008 2:58 p.m. Comment: 5

I like Michael as a character on the show, I just hate his character as a person. And I agree that the plot will likely allow for his redemption at some point.

But even the things he seems to do for the right reasons he really doesn’t. For example: It isn’t so much that he did all that crap FOR Walt, he did it so that he could HAVE Walt… If he was really just interested in Walt’s well being he wouldn’t have told him what he did to Libby and Anna, and he wouldn’t have tried to kill himself either. And his comment to Sayid “I’m here to die” makes me think he isn’t trying to help anyone - just do what he has to do so that he can kill himself.

In addition to his selfishness, he’s impulsive in a bad way, has no self control, is a hot-head, and doesn’t have any extraordinary skills or intelligence that make me want to ignore all that and like him anyway.

Anyway, I’m done ranting about Michael, I just wanted to see how other fans felt about him.

I didn’ t think it was him in the coffin before last episode, but now I’m on board.

walts mum died of a blood disorder does anyone think there might be more to it? and as it been passed on to walt?

  7. ozzig Apr 10, 2008 3:08 p.m. Comment: 7

I think Mickael cuts a pathetic and tragic figure, always doing the wrong things for the right reasons, but I don’t regard him as evil.

  8. schi0008 Apr 10, 2008 3:18 p.m. Comment: 8

Adding to how stupid Michael is, couldnt he have just told Jack or some other losties that he needed Ben to get Walt back? I think that if Jack knew that he would have traded instantly, but because Michael is a loser, he decides that he is going to lie to get a gun, then kill the person who gave him a gun, panic and shoot someone else, then shoot himself. It could have been so much easier, trade Ben for Walt. Instead it was trade Ben for Walt, but kill two people in the process, and shoot your own arm. What an idiot.

  9. Sandamtodd Apr 10, 2008 3:21 p.m. Comment: 9

I think Mike is pretty self-absorbed and selfish. I think to try and kill yourself repeatedly when you have a kid even if he doesn’t want anything to do with you right now is extremely dumb. Who’s to say your kid won’t come around and then want a relationship with you some day and you are gone.

Mike/Kevin always seems wrapped up in the moment instead of thinking long term. I do think even when he went on the freighter it was a selfish move and I don’t know if he really cared about saving the people on the island until he saw the guys on the boat shooting guns and realized they may really be in danger. I think he was just as concerned with blowing himself up as he was with sinking that boat.

Hello! I was informed that the user that posted the pornography and other awful things had been banned, so I thought I would check in. I had decided to stop visiting this site, although I love it, when that happened. I am going to try again…I hope it is not a mistake!

About Michael in the Coffin…someone please tell me what you think about this…I was rewatching TTLG and listened closely to what the funeral director said to Jack…he asked if he was friend or family, right? Well, I may be getting way too technical, and maybe assuming too much here, but if the man in the coffin were African-American, would the man have added “family,” or would he just have asked if he were a friend. I know, I know, there are many, many families that have many different ethnicities within them. But I also think that a person would not automatically assume that a white man and an African American man were family. So I think the person in that coffin is white. I may be picking apart the dialogue too much, but I really want to know who is in that coffin!

Also, after all the rotten things that Michael did (justifibly or not), I am not sure that Jack’s reaction to his death would be that intense. Some here have suggested that the reason he was so distraught was because the person in that coffin may have been the last person Jack knew could get him back to that island. That may have been Ben. But I really have no idea, that is why I am So_Lost!

Welcome back So_Lost! Glad you decided to give the site another go round. :-)

You make an excellent point about the person in the coffin! It never even crossed my mind that it would be an odd question if Jack was friend or family. Yes, families differ in ethnicity’s…but IMO, it would still be a strange question to ask Jack if Michael is indeed in the coffin. Perhaps that is even a bigger clue to the viewers than emphasizing on the neighborhood it’s located in- or the obituary stating the deceased has a teenage son. Great job! Of course, that gives me even less hope that it isn’t Locke in the coffin… :-( LOL

I have a question for Sandamtodd. Without counting them ,do you know how many questions you asked ? No cheating either ! lol I know but, I don’t think I can answer all of them. :-)

I agree so_lost if someone asked me that i would react.

I can’t blame Michael for doing things to get his son back, but the way he refused help and did it himself has caused so many problems and deaths. had he just said “hey jack round up the troops and lets go get walt” things would have been so much better

Welcome back So_Lost.Now I have a question for you Ben, and Sandamtodd . Will you go to this link (my poll) and cast your votes for who you think is in the Coffin? 16. Irocz28 Apr 10, 2008 7:42 p.m. Comment: 16

This is kind of off the topic at hand but here it goes anyway.

I would like to know if anyone has any ideas as to how the writers are going to explain Walt’s sudden growth. Like why did Locke see “NBA size” Walt only weeks or months after young Walt left the island? I just don’t see how the writers could explain this. I know they said they have a plan, but I think they are “Lost” themselves with this dilemma.

Or can someone direct me to a good theory on this topic?

    1. We’ll probably never know if Jack prefers boxers or briefs but to paraphrase Barak Obama, whatever Jack does wear, he looks good in them.
    2. My gut instinct says Apolobars contain caramel & peanuts.
    3. Forget pliers! If Sayid must choose a single hand-held tool for torturing someone he would go for a mulit-tool device such as a Leatherman (TM).
    4. Hurley? Extra crispy, of course.

Who is in the Coffin? LaShade

What is the Smoke Monster? Electromagnetic Experiments Gone Wrong

What is the 4-toed statue? Colossus of Rhodes

What were they breaking rocks for on the Hydra Station Island? A runway for planes.

Who are the Oceanic 6? Jack, Kate, Hugo, Sayid, Sun & Aaron as shown in the ABC promotion and confirmed in the March 21, 2008 podcast

What is the Sickness? Unknown. Likely that there is no sickness because it’s a hoax and a fear inducing tactic perpetuated by Dharma leaders to control their members. What Danielle describes as the sickness is likely the effects of time travel and/or apparitions as implied in the March 21, 2008 podcast

Does eveyone need a Constant? No. Only those exposed to high levels of radiation or electromagnetism as explained by Daniel Faraday.

    What happens to Claire? Unknown.

    What happens to Jin? Unknown.

Why is Desmond so freakin’ cool? That’s obvious

    Is Danielle dead? Unknown.

How often does Dharma drop supplies? Supply drops were every 6-8 months and initiated by the Flame Station computer until its destruction and are no longer arriving, as implied by Ben’s diary. It’s unknown if another method of supply drops is available.

What was that mark Ben had put on Juliet? Cadbury Egg a literal Easter Egg and suggests Juliet is a traitor and a killer.

What happened to that Isabelle woman? Dead Part of a “housecleaning” by the others.

Where’d Ben’s friend Annie go? Unknown. Possibly is Danielle or deceased from pregnancy and why Ben is so focused on fertility experiments.

Why doesn’t Richard age? Unknown. Probable that he is a beneficiary of a Dharma Life Extension Project or “supernatural” properties of the island.

Does Jack prefer Boxer or Briefs? Neither, duh

Why do pregnant women die on the island? Uknown. Probably side effects from the Dharma Life Extension Project or “supernatural” properties of the island.

Why are men 4 times more fertile on the island? Unknown. Probably side effects from the Dharma Life Extension Project or “supernatural” properties of the island.

  23. Billy_G_Oat Apr 10, 2008 10:27 p.m. Comment: 23

What kind of muffins was Juliet making for the book club? Uhm… Duh

When torturing, does Sayid prefer Needle nose or Combo Pliers? He’s shown in “One of Them” to prefer a pair of long handle snub nose linemans style pliers with a concave inset on its blades, presumably for twisting strands of heavy copper wire together. While Leatherman’s and Gerber multi-tools are efficient, nothing beats a specialized tool for a specialized job.

    Is Mikhial really dead? Dead

Is Christian alive on the island or is he a ghost image? Physically dead and the source of his apparitions is unknown, though his appearance in Jacob’s cabin implies Jacob is behind Christian’s appearances.

Are apollobars carmel or peanut butter? Appolobars are dark chocolate or golden caramel. Other bars may be availalbe but have yet to appear.

Why is everyone on the show well-versed in how to use a gun? Point and shoot, it’s not difficult.

Does Locke an “Elvis Man” or a “Beatles Man”? “Pulp Fiction reference” Neither

How much gas was in that Dharma Bus? Unknown. At least 3 gallons based on milelage, time driven in valley and distance from valley to beach camp.

Who was more useless Shannon or Libby? Shannon, of course. Libby bought coffee for Desmond and gave him the sailboat. She was the tail section’s “doctor” and offered medical care to the ill and injured. She was infinitely more intelligent, helpful and caring than Shannon, who did nothing but complain and cry about how unhelpful she was.

What does a fish bicuit taste like? Heaven

Is there a time shift on the island? Yes. Depending on the degree of entry and exit, this amount changes. Implied by Daniel’s chalkboard formulas, journal writings, statements and implied by the March 21, 2008 podcast.

Is Ben one of the Good Guys? Uhm… there are no good guys on LOST?

  24. Billy_G_Oat Apr 10, 2008 10:28 p.m. Comment: 24

Whan Ben is cooking a Ham does he use a honey glaze? No, honey glaze would be far too sweet for a red wine. Pineapple and pineapple juice with a sprinkle of brown sugar to balance the saltiness and compliment the natural fruit sweetness of the wine.

Does Hurley like “Original or “Extra Crispy” chicken? Original is too unpredictably messy. Extra Crispy all the way.

Why is there so many cans of lima beans on the freighter? Lima beans contain linamarin which decomposes to the toxin Hydrogen_cyanide when ingested by humans and when insufficiently prepared can result in Konzo.

Why was Regina reading the book upside down? Unknown. She probably wasn’t reading.

Who is making the banging sound on the boat? Unknown.

Do you think Sawyer will die? Everyone dies

How many oxycodone is it safe to take with vodka and OJ? Oxycodone should never be taken with alcohol. Consult your doctor if your kickstand(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priapus) lasts more than 4 hours.

Will Sayid ever see the movie “Say Anything”? Yes, but he will wait for the Blu-ray edition with bonus features and new commentary.

Who loved the episode “Exposé”? Uhm… Who didn’t?!?!

Does Jacob really need help? Unknown. Probably.

Why isn’t there 2 Helicopters on the boat? One is very, very tiny.

Can Charlie really hold his breath for 4 minutes underwater? Unknown, probably not. He is seen swimming on screen for no more than 1 minute. Even 2 minutes is not unlikely for someone in his physical condition.

What happened to Charlie’s DS ring he left in Aaron’s cradle? Sawyer took it, obviously.

  25. Jukin Apr 11, 2008 9:40 a.m. Comment: 25

For those still thinking Michael has ANY redeeming qualities, you’re just plain wrong. Yes he’s a bad person for killing Libby and Anna Lucia, but his agreement to “sacrifice” Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Hurley to the Others in order to get Walt back is even worse. He might have been able to justify Libby’s death in his mind as an accident, and he may have even considered Anna Lucia’s murder to be a momentary lapse of judgment in a desperate situation. But he gave careful thought to the plan to lure Jack and the others into that trap. He had time to reconsider his actions and yet he willingly traded the four of them for his son without regard to what the Others would do to them. And keep in mind that this was AFTER he saw how Sayid and Jack had beaten and tortured Ben/Henry in an effort to learn where the Others had taken their people - including Walt. He should have known that they were torturing Ben to get Walt back and by turning them over, that Ben would retaliate in kind to them. Instead he just handed them over, got Walt and left. He gave no thought to what they had done to help him, and what they would endure for those efforts. Michael has ZERO redeeming qualities and he’s clearly not someone ANY child should be influenced by! Sorry for the rant, but his ease in turning over four of his friends who have tried to help him to people who will likely tortured and kill them really bothers me.

  26. So_Lost Apr 11, 2008 11:16 a.m. Comment: 26

Jukin - what a well-stated and fully thought out opinion! I totally agree with you. I am afraid though, that rather than him being a well-written bad guy character, I think he was poorly conceived and created by the writers just to accomplish some events to further the plot. I can totally enjoy truly bad characters when they are well-written and mulit-dimensional (Ben), but I think Michael was just a cheap way to get things done in the script of the story.

  27. Ben Apr 11, 2008 12:26 p.m. Comment: 27

Ok, so speaking of multi-dimensional characters, who do you guys think takes the cake? I think Locke’s character is the most intersting in a wierd way. His character traits are consistent, and yet depending on how events play out he can either seem like a benevolent hero, a pathetic child, a tyrant, etc. He’s incredibly naive but at the same time aware of things that other’s aren’t. I find his character very convincing. You like him at first, and as you get to know him better, deeper, ugly layers are revealed. He also differs from many of the characters, who became more likeable after thier time on the island than they were prior. Locke becomes less likeable.

Also: most pointless character? I say Claire. Other than being Aaron’s mother I can’t see what her character really adds to the show. Of course, you never know…

TLF - maybe that goes along with Abaddon’s question (Are they still alive?) to Hurley. Maybe Ben refers to them in the past tense because he already knows that they will die. And Abaddon apparently sees that as a possibility, too. Good observation!

Ben - You are right about Locke, well put. I hate to admit it, but I kind of feel the same way about your namesake, too. Very, very detailed and multi-dimensional character studies are my favorite! Who knows if Ben is good or bad (or both), but he sure is intriguing! And Jack is good, too. But he’s too good, you know?

I have a “Kevin Johnson” question. Why did the camera zoom in on Michaels left hand after he crashed into that dumpster? It seemed kind of strange. I did notice that in the scene before when he was writing that note that he had a watch on his left wrist (probably the same watch he pawned). But when he crashed the watch wasn’t on his left wrist anymore. It’s probably nothing, but I was just wondering why they decided to zoom in on his left wrist/hand. It’s like they were trying to show us something…..

  33. LOSALIA Apr 21, 2008 5:53 p.m. Comment: 33

Who really faked the plane wreckage? Ben/Tom say it was Widmore. And on Widmore’s boat they say it was BEN. So, who really faked the wreckage?
