Even Ben mentions something of the sort to him before leading him to the room where his dad was. He tells Locke that he posesses a gift he’s not aware of…….

Mine is more of a question -
Anybody have any theories on how Locke’s father gets on the island. I think that Locke has the unique power to consciously co create….as in imagine something - out of othing ….and the island is helping him do it !
i think that jackes dad is also jacob
Ben did tell John to imagine a magic box and then to imagine whatever he wanted from it, or something to that effect. Good point on that one.
There’s the magic box theory. That whatever you really want will ‘pop up’ in this metaphorical magic box on the Island. There’s that theory.
Personally, I don’t buy it. (If Ben believed in such a thing he could have conjured himself up any kind of thing he wanted, right?)
I think Ben manipulated Locke with talk of his father (asking him about his spinal injury, and did it hurt, which would lead Locke’s father to be at the forefront of his mind) and then Ben presented him with the magic box idea and, hey, there was the father he had been thinking of! Magic!
Or, more realistically, Ben manipulated it to look like magic and, instead, Richard Alpert was sent to the real world the way Tom was sent to the real world in Meet Kevin Johnson. Alpert engineered a car crash for Anthony Cooper and perhaps posed as a paramedic, arrived on the crash scene and took Cooper away in an ambulance, drugged him and brought him to the Island.
