LOST-Theories.com

hello to all lost fans, I can see that a lot of things have been discussed on this site so I don’t think I can contribute much at the moment

Has anyone talked about WHY we keep hearing speech backwards? walt, the whispers etc at first I thought it was just the writers twist on things but now I’ve discovered that it could be something else called (reverse speech)

Its unconscious thoughts that causes this and apparently children talk backwards before learning to talk forwards I can’t expand on this very much though.

I only came across this reverse speech thing by accident because I was looking in lostpedia at the picture of the games room in the santa rosa hospital and saw a few things that were in reverse the letters t m for example written on two wooden boxes were shown in reverse so I got investigating on mirror images which led me to articles written on unconscious thought.

Do you mean this picture ??

The letter “TM” appears correct to me on both boxes, the right most box is upsidedown, not backwards. However, the “S” below the “3” on the wall does appear to be backwards. It’s certainly not a “5. Not sure how any of it applies to the whispers or reverse speech.

Enjoy Wikipedia’s article on Reverse Speech and the website of the theory’s main proponent, David John Oates.

The general theory seems plausible, but the evidence which supports his theory is suspect.

Related articles for forming your own opinion include Phonetic Reversal, Backsmashing and a visual version a similar phenomenon called Pareidolia

Nevertheless, these subjects could help form a plausible theory on the whispers and reverse speech used on the show. I am just highly skeptical at this point.

Sorry for the intrusion, but those letters are the same die-cut foam play floor letters that my kids have. The design is visible from both sides and the letters even pop out. Thought this might help clear it up. LOL

good question, I have no idea about the significance of the backwards talk, and actually wonder how integral it will be to the final outcome.
