We know that radio communication has been a problem on the island due to the looking glass station, but if Michael was on the freighter before Charlie died How did Ben make contact with the freighter without the signal being routed through the looking glass and even then how would he have a contact number for a ship if he did not already no the ship?
Also to bear in mind if Ben is powerful enough to have communication with the rest of the world when he shows juliet that her sister is okey etc why would he need to go to such lengths to have a spy on the ship, unless this is a decoy so he can tell locke etc that michael is on the ship so as to detract from the fact that the ship is his own and nothing to do with Widmore. Could it be that the whole situation is entirely crafted by Ben, as he said when in prisoned he was exactly were he wanted to be and Miles said the same. Did Ben fake the crash as seen on TV to put people of the search for the island and is Miles looking for the money to pay for it 3.2 Million. I no it has been said this was the coordinated route for the island in code, but in the Helicopter as shown from faradays guide it was routed as 305 Degrees. Also we no one helicopter crashed in the ocean, when the search team first reached the island, but they still have another Helicopter even when the freighter only left port with one. So where did the other come from. Its only thoughts but it seems too simple to be lead by the story when as we no with LOST its what you are not told thats most important.

i’m sure the boat is widmore’s. it would be a little too strange for the crew on the ship to claim it belongs to widmore at the same time that the ‘others’ are claiming its widmore’s… i think its widmore’s…
as for ben making contact off the island’, lets not forget ben has a ‘second’ island a few miles off shore, which (when he was holding jack, kate and sawyer) he spends time on. i believe there are many ways in which ben can contact ‘off’ the island.
i mean anything can be possible, right? i’m getting ready for the ‘ ohhhh look there are two ben’s, one off and one on the island’ twist…. ohhh its a coming….
I think Michael was specifically picked for a purpose. Perhaps because he had been on the Island already and Ben just wanted him back (he doesn’t like people leaving no matter where they came from).
Tom, for example, could have been the spy on the boat. Instead they put effort into allowing it to be Michael. That suggests they specifically wanted him there for a reason we don’t yet know.
great point AC
we don’t know the first helicopter crashed do we? we heard a splash or something and then Naomi said it went down. good thoughts though, we have no proof the boat’s Widmore’s. +1.
Robert, i think there are two separate issues that you have brought up, the first is whether the freighter is Widmore’s, all the evidence points to this being the case.
The second issue is the faking of the Flight 815 wreckage. On this point I agree with you, it was probably Ben’s doing. Why, well Ben was witness to where the plane actually crashed and so he had a motivation to plant the fake wreckage as far away from the island as he could rationally do so.
If Ben has the resources to fake a plane crash, then I am sure that it would need only some petty cash to create the documents that convinced Michael that Widmore was responsible.
This also provides us with another piece of evidence that the freighter is Widmore’s and the staging of the fake crash was Ben’s. The Black Box from the fake wreckage is on the freighter, if the freighter was Ben’s then he would have no need to locate the black box. However Widmore would have reason if he suspects that the Black Box is staged. Although my guess is that the black box will contain flight data that matches the crash and where the faked plane was found. Come on Ben isn’t that stupid.
So I think Ben planted the plane to avoid any possible search team accidentally finding the actual crash of Flight 815. Widmore, already knows how hard it is to locate the island so he probably has no reason to fake plane crash.
