Burned alive in the heat of agrieving mind..

— LostViking

Unfortunately I have no explination for the following, except that it’s another dilemma we face where the writers of LOST puts in out face , arepeated theme …Am sorry if this has been mentioned before though ..

S4E5 The Constant: We have arepeated number theme , that occurs 3 times in that episode .. 1)Daniel Farady asks desmond when he go back in time,to go to the university and ask him to set the device on 2.342.

2) The auctioneer of the black rock says “We open the bidding on lot 2342”.

3)When desmond goes to Penny’s house to ask for her number so he could call her while he’s on the frieghter , Penny’s house number is 2342.

to be honest i dont believe that the lost’s writers have in their minds an explination for all these small details that keeps happening ,except they know people will notice and that will keep them attached to the show , since the whole show is mysterious and vague ..anyway if any of you guys have thoughts or possible explination i would love to hear them ..

one more thing i found strange, in the same episode where Desmond meets Mr.Widmore and they go to the restroom , Widmore goes to wash his hands , yet he doesnt touch the Water Faucet with his naked hands , he use apaper .. and when he’s done he doesn’t shut off the water .. Thank you.

its meaningless. just two of the numbers (23 and 42). like flight 815. just two of the numbers.

Pennys house was 418 was it not?

I dont think it’s meaningless,if you’ve been watching LOST closely you would know that there’s alot of repeated themes such as Numbers,Sayings..etc And about Penny house am pretty sure it was 2342

The number of Penny’s house is 423

Referring to Mr.Widmore and the fact he left the water running??? Maybe it signifies the fact that he remains anonymous throughout time and dosenmt want to leave a trace or he knew that Desmond would need running water on his face in order to wake up and get up off the floor after mentally travelling through time.

Also when Sayid shot that guy on the golf course, the sprinklers came on, another repeated theme?

Ummm…. a public restroom is a public restroom. Though the idea of Widmore not wanting to leave prints is intriguing, i think that is just cleanliness on his part. I mean I elbow the faucet and towel dispenser whenever i must, and absolutely must, use a public restroom.

LostViking, although I originally thought Widmore was either practicing super good hygiene or not wanting to leave his finger prints, leaving the faucet running has puzzled me.

As far as Penny’s address, from Lostpedia (scroll way down) http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/The_Constant

herohurley– staph, e-coli, cold, flu, hepetitis or just plain ol’ human bodily fluids from the last guy. You don’t know why the last guy had to wash his hands. And do you think he cleaned off the handle? Call me crazy, but I just can’t trust a public restroom no matter where it is.

But yeah, running water shows up quite a bit dosen’t it. Always just enough to catch your attention as if to make a point about it.

Remember the sprinklers at the golf course when Sayid killed that guy? I always wondered what high priced exclusive golf club would turn the sprinklers on their high paying guests in the middle of the day.

lateralus, I usually golf in a club and there’s a schedule that says at what hours the sprinklers on each hole will be activated… It usually depends on how much sun there’s been on one day, etc…

1st of all thanks for all of your contributions , Annie sorry 423 is pretty similar , i must been confused .. about Widmore .. I know some obsessed ppl with hygene .. but still they dont use paper to open water !!!!!!!! but anyway .thanks

lateralus I’m not making fun of you - really. I just thought this was a damned funny post because it’s really true. Now look at what you did - I’m going to have to start using a paper towel to turn the faucet on and off!! Thank a lot!! LOL!

Sorry Viking, there are a lot of people that will not touch anything in a public bathroom — not the faucet, not the door, not anything… some people won’t even touch anything in another person’s home. It is not really uncommon — although there may still be something else to it with Widmore.

Leaving the facet on tapped my interest as well. Unfortunately I don’t know why he did that.

I, too, thought Widmore simply didn’t want to touch the faucet, not because it was filled with germs but because he felt he was above turning on his own water. As for not turning the faucet off, I inferred that Widmore was just being a jerk to Desmond. It suggested that Desmond was lower than Widmore and it should not be Widmore’s, but Desmond’s, responsiblity to turn off the water.

Like if you and I were walking toward a door and I intentionally slowed down forcing you to be the one to open it for me. That would be rude and self-important of me and turn you into my unwilling servant.

As for the numbers… well… I think the producers always intended to have the numbers seem like a coincidental link between characters. It’s a common theme on the show. Looking for them is fun and theorizing about their meaning can be equally fun. But they are numbers and represent 7 of 10 integers. It’s hard not to use some of them and if you’re going to use some, why not make them appear to have more meaning than they do.

I believe that the writers intentionally imply meaning where there sometime may not be any or where meaning is so obscure it becomes the focus of debate on theory websites and near office watercoolers around the world.

I think Mr. Widmore would have turned the water off himself with a towel if Desmond hadn’t been there. Just him showing Desmond his place again.
