This is most likely a frequently asked question but here goes. Why does the guy in the Dharma orientation films give different names to each team, for instance in one he is called marvin candle in another his name is completely different, what is the purpose for this?
oh and what is “the bear”, found it on lostpedia.com it said that it was station 7 out of 7.

Auto, The names are Marvin Candle, Edgar Hallowax, and I can’t recall the first name, but one was Candlewick. I think you might find more information on Lostpedia or DarkUfo if you are interested.
Or, maybe someone else recalls.

Marvin Candle, Mark Wickmund and Edgar Halowax are names used by a DHARMA Initiative scientist in different DHARMA Initiative films in which he appears.
No one is sure at this time what it all means. There are lots of theories about his appearances in the Dharma films and why he uses different names. Some include cloning, time travel duplicates and fertility experiments. Still others involve the incident and the loss of the use of his arm. Most are unsupportable at this time because of lack of evidence.
We can presume, however, that persons recruited to work in a Dharma Station would likely never see the Dharma Barracks introduction film for fear that they may question his name change and fail to fulfill their duties, ie pushing the button. Furthermore, Dharma Station employees would likely never “transfer” to other Stations for the same reason. If this is true, then there is no need for a name change on the Dr.’s part.
Sorry, forgot to answer your other question:
“oh and what is “the bear”, found it on lostpedia.com it said that it was station 7 out of 7”
The Bear Station refers to a fake Dharma Initiative video created by fans of the show. The scientist speaking claims that the food we consume has lowered in quality over time and the he goal of the station’s occupants is to eat more than 50 fish biscuits per day and drink no more than one glass of “fantastic salmon juice”, presumably to test the effect of their fish biscuits on humans. The subjects are asked to write their their feelings and physical side effects, such as nausea, vomiting and diahrea, in a notebook, making reference to the Swan Station’s note taking.
The video is well produced so that the film quality and presentation is like that of any other Dharma film, including a bear inspired Dharma Logo and film scratches and skips. You can view the video here:
