Why would there be a wheelchair in the wreckage, but they didn’t have one to wheel him onto the plane. Unless of course there is a special wheelchair to fit down the aisles, and the one in the wreckage was his put in the luggage storage. I don’t know if thats how they do it or not. I’m curious if anyone reading this has any history with the airlines. I always thought any wheelchair could fit down the aisles( unless a private tiny jet), then the wheelchair gets locked into place in the very front. Something about all this just seems odd to me.
I’m just looking for some clarification here, knowing that some of the brightest minds dwell on this site. Thanks fellas.

How a wheelchair got on the island is not nearly as relevant as why there’s a wheelchair on the island.
Unless I’m mistaken, Locke never tells his fellow Losties that he was paralyzed before coming to the island. Why? Wouldn’t that fact have helped to convince people to join his group instead of Jack’s? Does everyone in the camp know Rose had terminal cancer, or that Jin was infertile? Is Ben the only person who knows everything? It would be very interesting if all the Losties sat around a camp fire and compared notes.
Yeah it was his own wheelchair that was stowed with the luggage :)
thats a good question. unfortunately i dont have an answer for you, except maybe there just wasn’t room on the plane for the wheelchair so they put it in the luggage compartment.
but then again, maybe they just did it that way cos it fitted with the storyline of the show. (locke waking up, not in a wheelchaire, able to walk).
+1 for a good question
DC - thats a really good point. but i guess locke is embarrassed or ashamed and to him, it just wouldnt be worth it to tell people. he likes people to think he is an experienced hunter, and if they knew that he wasn’t, he thinks that they would think he was a liar or a con.
I have personally flown at least 50 times, and I’ve noticed that the people in wheelchairs always sit in the very front, in there wheelchair, fastened to the ground.
Yeah, I’ve seen the wheelchair strapped down too. but it might be possible that Locke had a custom wheelchair that was too wide for the aisle.
Locke was carried to his seat by the flight attendants. He was one of the first to board the plane, so nobody saw it. As far as I know Rose and Sawyer are the only two losties that know John’s condition.
Well, so that settles it then, doesnt it? We know he was in the chair when he was at the airport and if the flight attendants had to carry him on the plane, they must have checked his wheelchair. That is where it came from.
grymm - how does sawyer know? i remember rose knowing, but i must have forgot how sawyer knows
Cindy might have known.
also he might not count anymore, but i think walt knows. in the pilot locke said “do you wanna know a secret”. later walt, tells micheal that “mr locke said a miracle happened here” but i kinda always assumed that locke actually told him about being in a wheelchair.
When Locke put Sawyer with Cooper in the brig of the Black Rock, Cooper tells Sawyer that John was paralyzed. After Sawyer killed Cooper he asked Locke if it was true that he was a cripple, to which Locke replied ‘not anymore.’
He was wheeled to the Gate, They told him the chair they use to assist people to the plane was broken, The Air line offered to carry him onto the plane to his seat. The chair was in the Luggage compartment.
Not sure the episode this was in, But I do remember it vividly.
