ok. so… in the torah (jewish bible): The first humans are adam and eve…they have children: cain, able, and seth, seth gives birth to many children, one being noah, who has many children, one being terah, who also has children, one being abraham, who marries sarah, who gives birth to issac, who gives birth to jacob (and others) now, in one of the stories about jacob, he sleeps with a rock as his pillow, he has a dream of angels coming down from heaven and speaking to him. this has been interpreted many times as angels coming down on stairs. then he marries two women sarah and rachel (?) they have 12 kids, now. We consider him the father of Israel, kind of like how he is the father/leader of the others. Now. what happens if he couldnt die b/c his great great great grandparents couldnt go back to the garden of eden, the place where they lived, were created, and were exiled from. and then the smoke monster is supposed to be a security system against people like adam and eve who dont listen to god/jacob.

the gun powder-y stuff around jacobs cabin could have been to keep bad people out, not jacob IN

Can you explain, if the first people are Adam and Eve and they only have 3 sons, how do those sons go on to have many children?

This is too biblical for me.

To anwser Lojozz’s question, I think back when the Torah was written by men, only men were considered important and women were only mentioned if they gave birth to an important man and sometimes not even then. Women weren’t allow to do the things men did either so no chance for being a hero. It has to do with the politics of the culture and time and not historical fact.

Scooter, OK so you are saying Adam and Eve had daughters as well. Does this then mean that the entire Human race is a product of incest?

Adam and Eve could have had 97 girls and 3 boys, but the Torah would still only list the three boys as children because girls werent considered important enough to mention. (Sad, huh?) And Lojozz - you are right. According to many religions, we are all the product of incest. Totally. We are all technically related (though distant) to each other. No matter what race you are. Think of THAT next time you go on a date. Hehe!!

Lostseltzer, your account of the bible is very inaccurate. 1) Adam and Eve were the first man and woman but not the only ones. Cain and Seth go on to both have many children with women who are not their sisters.

    2) The dream of “Jacob’s ladder” involves angels walking both up and down ladders from heaven. This had been said to signify the connection of the Jewish people to God and Heaven and that God has laid path’s for his people that both lead closer to him and away from him.

    3) Jacob’s two wives were named Leah and Rachel. Jacob’s sons make up the 12 tribes that comprise the kingdoms of Isreal and Judah (You’re right that Jacob is the father of Israel)

    4) Mortality and pain were punishments inflicted upon man by God when he expelled Adam and Even from the Garden of Eden. Jacob lived a normal human lifespan.

    5) It is true that God placed an archangel to guard the entrance of the Garden of Eden once Adam and Eve were expelled.

Please research the Torah before post incorrect information about it (some people take that book pretty seriously)
