……
Time travel has been a theme of this series, and I think it is the center of the storyline.
What if in the future a time machine was built based on Daniel Faraday experiments. It was used and caused a paradox, changing the actions of one or more of the characters which cause a change of events to happen. This would explain all of the connections and the reason everything happens for a reason on the island.
All this time stuff will explain the miracles and Jacob, but I have to run will add more later,
One paradox is already evident with Desmond. He was thrown back in the past, this caused him to go AWOL to meet with Faraday to give him the numbers to test on Eloise (test rat). In a sense this made his experiment work (I might be wrong about that). This is also caused Desmond to be a deserter which caused him to be in prison. Which caused him to meet Libby who gave him the sailboat, meet Jack in Stadium, and so on. Desmond also needed a constant Penelope Widmore. In the real timeline and served in the military ending all relationship with Penelope. However I think this just part of the whole paradox.
The show also hints towards the Grandfather Paradox which is. If you go back in time and shoot your grandfather you would not have been born. So time will not let you shoot your grandfather, the gun may jam or the bullet will just disappear before it hits your grandfather. This is exactly what happened to Micheal when he tried to commit suicide.
The paradox would explain many things.
The island The island was location of the time travel experiment in the future. If the experiment caused cataclysm destroying everything but the Island and it inhabitants. The inhabitants may be trying to fix the problem. They know a few things about the Island, like in the past a plane crashed flight 815. They are using this to bring people to Island they have something to do with the time paradox. This may even be extended to the Henry Gale (Balloon), Desmend (Sailboat), Blackrock (Slave Ship), Dharma Intuitive, and other events to happened in the real time line. Its just they made changes in the past to make everything work.
The Island may not be visible (Evan to god according to Ben) because of the effect of the time travel accident. This Island in temporal flux, or maybe in a different universe which was created when the real universe was destroyed. (Some Theoretical physicist believe information can not be destroyed, if it is then the entire universe is destroyed, and a new one created. Hence the Island is a universe. This is really digging though).
Note: This theme is used in Star Trek Voyager in the Episode “The Year in Hell”.
Flight 815 I have a few different theories on this.
The future inhabitants of the Island know about the crash and made changes to the past to bring all of the people effected by the paradox to the Island they just don’t know where the paradox started.
The future people are isolating the people to limit the changes to the timeline.
Numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42)
These are really constants or markers to put in place by someone/something from the future to validate and check the changes being made. The may also act as an sub conscience Constant (From the Constant Theme)
Coincidences/Connections
The flashbacks are events that should not have happened, they are all caused from a chain reaction cause when time was changed. I.E. One thing leads to another.
Smoke Creature It actually reads the minds of the people and searching for things that should not have happened. The numbers are constants it uses, thats why they appear in flashbacks.
Adam and Eve
I have to many theories on this, but I do believe they are key to series and they are one the characters from the present. One thing I have noticed I do not believe they are relatives or lovers. They where placed in caves after they died by someone. However one thing that strikes me is they are not placed together. To me this implies that they are strangers or even enemies.
— Alternative theory I have a second theory that there is a virus or mutation that causes women not to have children. The people from the future are looking for a cure or the original carrier of the virus to eliminate it. They are changing time to bring people to Island. So my flight 815 theory would be the same. Of these people may have actually caused the virus/mutation in first place. I.E. The original carriers should have died, or maybe not even existed in the first place. Cause and Effect. So the other group is trying to fix the paradox the other caused.
Well I have to run and will clean this up and post more later. Just want to see what you people think.
I think you’re way off base. the writers will avoid the paradoxes, and we aren’t talking about actual timetrave, only consciousness shifting.
thats what that jacob’s list was maybe about….maybe he was trying to get all the people who are related to this paradox..but he didn’t know which one exactly it is…so he made a list of possible candidates
lockeko what are you talking about
the whole SHOW is about paradox
paradox is a risk of time travel
and somebody probably created one so now they’re trying to fix it.
there is no paradox because in actuality Des didn’t go back in time. He only went back through his own consciosness, any change would only effect him, not anyone else. hence, no paradox. I’m not trying to fight with you I just don’t agree that the writers will go down a complicated time travel aspect to explain a show that only has approx 35 episodes left.
I’m with lockeko, the writers have stated that they will avoid paradoxes at all costs.
Mr B, welcome to the site. Sorry to say, I do agree with lockeko and Lojozz.
Keep posting though!
I don’t think Des went AWOL. He mentioned he had some leave coming up.
Its cool Lockeko, the best part of a mystery is ruling out possibilties. This show is great for that, I just hope J.J. gets a crack at the Dark Tower series. (BTW, I loved the ending). I’m rewatching the whole series now, just finishing up Season 2. Much of this is coming from that, since Coma, Heaven/Hell, etc have been ruled out. I’m just commenting on story line. This series is much more about how lost people can get, and in the end finding their true self. Just remember in the end some are good, and some may be bad.
I’m sure by the end of Season 4, I will be singing a different tune. I know I have every season. Unfortunely I missed the first 3, and had to watch them back to back. You really don’t have time to look at everything.
Please stop saying that Desmond traveled back in time during “The Constant”. What actually happened was that 1996 Desmond’s consciousness traveled forward to 2004 Desmond.
