The first reason is that Daniel and Charlotte knew about that gas station. Not only were they aware of this but they also knew exactly where it was and what time the gas would be released.

The second reason is that Widmore aparently has the black box from Oceanic flight 815. As the black box would have been with the plane, which we know crashed on the Island, that means someone on the island must have collected it and given it to him.

I cant actually thibk of who this would be but i’m leaning towards it being Des. I dont think it would be any of the Losties as they would be unaware of this gas station.

I know this isn’t exactly a theory but i’m hoping people can discuss and try and come up with possible spy Widmore has on the Island.

I think Harper may be involved as the spy, as I guess because of her late husband Goodwin, she would probably have good reason to help Widmore get to Ben. She would be one of the few ‘others’ to know about Goodwin’s work and where the location of the tempest was So she drew that map, also showing her limited knowledge of some parts of the island which she labelled unknown.

Also she is at the temple and working for Ben she drew the map to the Temple under his orders BUT here is the killer she informed the shooters of the same path so they could cut them off and kill Danielle, sweet revenge for Ben facilitating the murder of her husband.

Des working as a spy for Widmore … as likely as Sawyer working as an agent for Cooper, there is no motivation for it!

Possible . . . but riddle me this, batman: How could/would Widmore have been in contact with his spy?? Seems like the spy would have to have been an “Other” or able to use the “Others’” communication system or one of the few Others who could move between the island and the outside world…

And, if the freighter really does have the actual black box from the real flight 815, (which I doubt), then how was it transported off the island ?? Maybe in the sub before Locke blew up the sub??

I was hoping someone would post this. I believe that Des is a spy for Widmore. Remember when Des left the island for about 2 weeks in his boat only to return? I believe that he was intercepted by the freighter or Widmore aboard some other vessel. Widmore then preceeded to instruct Des to go back to the island and be his spy, in return he would give him his blessing to be with Penny or something along those lines!! Any thoughts?

I’ve been thinking something is fishy about Des for a while myself. I think there is more the Widmore getting Desmond to the island for sure.

Also throwing this out there….what about Libby? Does anyone else find it strange that after a 10 minute conversation with some stranger you just give them your boat like Libby did so Des could enter Widmore’s race. I’ve always found that really off and now that we know Widmore is a bigger player in this game that moment really stands out to me.

Its possible that Libby and Des ended up working together at some point although I don’t have anything to back that up

I think that Widmore/Abaddon, I’m not convinced they are on the same side, already knew about the island, not so much from a spy, but from some other source, DHARMA, and had already trained the freighties on how to disarm the station.

The black box was from the fake oceanic 815 wreckage i think, i cannot remember what captain gaunt said exactly, correct me if i am wrong, but wasn’t he saying that windmore has spent loads of money tryin to pull this black box up as he wants to know who planted it there and so on,

I’m very doubtful that des is the spy. He realised at the last minute that entering tthe code was important and went out of hi way to continue doing so/ cause the implode at the risk of his own life.

He was also as suprised as evryone else that it was not penny’s boat. Widmore has clearly been researching the whereabouts of the island for years. he bought the log from the Black rock in 1996. i think he has use Desmond to help him do this, i.e setting him off in his task to become a great man which led to him being on the island etcetera.

But desmond spying for him, no way. Plus desmond was on the freigter when the gas station was activated, wasn’t he and he really doesn’t seem to know the island. AND, sorry I’m rambling, he was prepared to die instead of Charlie atthe looking gass.

He’s one of the good guys, i feel sure of it.

There is most definitely a rat in the basket. Not sure who yet. I will comment further on this topic as new theories emerge. +1

Captain Gault said that the box was retrieved by a salvage vessel from the bottom of the ocean. As for Des, I had my doubts about him until “The Constant”. Now I ‘m pretty sure he’s on eof the good guys.

+1. i like this theory and i agree about des being the spy, although at this point i don’t think he is aware of it.

ok here goes, sometime in future episodes of lost (seaon 5 or 6 maybe), desmond will be ‘flashing’ again, and he will flash back to the past where he will tell widmore anything he wants to know. i know des doesnt have a motivation for this yet but maybe he will get one next season, or maybe he will be forced to do it, or maybe he will begin to feel that widmore isnt that bad and that becoming his spy will be the only way to protect himself and others from ben, or maybe he feels that this is the only way to see penny. i don’t know. but that would explain how widmore would have communication with his spy as all des would have to do is flash back to the past (a time when widmore begins looking for the island and starts the ball rolling).

anyway, even if des will become widmores spy, i think that he will still remain one of the good guys.

Well we know that Desmond loves Penny, but we must remember that there is something greater than that for Desmond. When Penny located him at the Stadium, he could have gone off with Penny at that stage, but instead he declares that he must retrieve his honor. It would be hard to believe that at any time he will destroy his honor and reputation just to be with Penny. It would be too out of character.
