Abaddon” is the name of the biblical Angel of the Abyss (Revelation 9:11). The name is Greek for “destruction” or “the destroyer”. As a place, it is likened to Sheol or hell.

Abaddon is also known as the ‘angel of death’.

My theory is that Abaddon could be th angel of death who in fiction/film /myth often has encounters with people who should have died or are pleading with him for their lives.

Th island or its activities cannot b seen by anyone, Ben said to …. (cannot remeber, mayve Locke) that ‘God doesn’t know how long we’ve been here’, one of the losties, Sayid said ‘we should have died in that crash, yet we barely have a scrathch upon us’.

Now if abaddon is the gatekeeper of hell, as often depicted, then not only should they have died but some of them should have gone to hell for the commiting the ‘deadly sins: e.g. Hurley gluttony, Kate and sawyer murder etcetera ,but have been given the chance to redeem themselves on the island.

The angel of death could be doing his work to ensure that they meet this fate and that Ben/Jacob stops meddling with the natural order of things.

However, Abaddon may be only metaphorically the angel of death and is in fact an ‘Agent of death’ compiler of a death squad, who’s task is to make sure that the cover up/ fake plane scenario is never discovered and that the losties remain dead. He may be working for Widmore or someone else who engineered the crash from the start to help find the island.

One other thing though that points to it not being a metaphor is Ben and the others wide knowledge of the losties past, including that sawyer murdered a man in Australia, no-one could know that unless they had some super-human power or had engineered Hibbs getting Sawyer to carry out the murder.

Anyway…………… the mind boggles.
